Trivia

In an interview of the magazine SEMANA, with the director, the magazine asked: Why the movie? Laura Mora Ortega answered: "I used to write a lot, and people encouraged me to protest [with the writings] about my case, but since my father's death I felt that my only way of express myself [writing] was gone with him. I went to live to Australia, partly, because I couldn't live in Medellín anymore. Two years later, when I was working as a waitress to pay the university, in which I was doing Film studies, I had a dream. I was in a lookout looking at that fierce city of Medellín, and, suddenly, a guy, about my age, sat down next to me, we started talking and, all of a sudden, he says: "my name is Jesus, and I killed your father." Visceral, gripping, and lovely

A simply made movie about frustration and inertia in a violent society. For me an all time top movie. Like a less fantastic, more personal City of God. To answer the other commenter who says that the father's death was unexplained, it was explained, if subtly. He was a politically vocal person and part of the point of the movie is that in the darker times 10-15+ years ago in Medellin there was no knowing, there was no justice. No Colombians nor many Latinos, for that matter, would have lost the meaning though people less familiar with Colombian history can't be expected to have the background.
