In the approach to Fukumoto's requested performance, Rodrigo has to decide what he will do about the Requiem, Fuku's approach to the piece with which Rodrigo does not agree. In what Rodrigo decides to do, he leaves to Gloria and Betty to pick up the figurative pieces. Rodrigo still has to coach Hailey who has made it into the second round of the competition, the semi-finals. Getting snippets of the semi-final deliberation and getting Rodrigo's round two critique affects what Hailey ends up doing. And Gloria and Thomas get into an argument, their misunderstandings of the situation which leads to them coming clean about certain secrets they've been keeping.
Did You Know?
The location for the conducting final round competition was chosen in large part for its stunning city views, so Azazel Jacobs
was relieved when there was no rain on the shoot day. He had a difficult shot to pull off - Hailey's spirit walking away while she continues to conduct, all without any special effects or editing tricks. To accomplish this, a double learned the piece of music and closely studied Hailey's conducting style. As Jacobs explains, "She stood right by the camera, outside of the frame, so that when Lola walked away, she quickly was able to jump into her place and continue conducting as Hailey. This meant that by the time we swung around, both Haileys would be in frame. Honestly this was one of those things we weren't sure going to work until it actually did!" See more
