11 Actors and Directors Share the Films That Define Them, From Barry Jenkins to Jessica Chastain, Jonah Hill, and More

FilmStruck, the streaming platform from Turner Classic Movies that specializes in arthouse and foreign films, has started a viral movement on social media with the #FilmStruck4 challenge. The company posted to its official Twitter page on April 17 an announcement asking people to share the four films that define them. The challenge quickly grew to include some of the best actors and directors working today, from Guillermo del Toro to Jessica Chastain, Barry Jenkins, Zoe Kazan, Edgar Wright, and more.

Del Toro had a hard time narrowing down his picks to just four, so he posted two separate posts with the eight films that define him. Fans of the director won’t be surprised to see Jean Cocteau’s “Beauty and the Beast” and Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” included among his choices. Jessica Chastain split her list into two, one for performances that define her and one for movies.

A History of Short-Lived Shows That Tried to Premiere After ‘American Idol’

In its prime, “American Idol” was a show that made gold from pretty much everything it came in contact with on Fox. At the height of its power, it made household names out of the people sitting in the judges’ chairs and competing every week. It also saw ratings so astronomical that it became a coveted lead-in for a variety of shows. New series, returning favorites, and newly-minted hits all enjoyed the slot right after “Idol” on the Fox schedule, through its various seasons and placements.

“24,” The O.C.,” “Bones,” “Fringe,” “Glee,” and “Empire” all benefited from the “Idol” bump, either at the beginning of their runs or on their own respective ascents. And you could make the argument that shows like “Til Death,” “Lie to Me,” and even “Human Target” — shows that didn’t have mammoth success — still stayed on the air longer than they would have, were it

Deadpool 2 Test Screenings Outscore Original After Adding Secret Cameo

Just over a week after a number of Twitter users claimed Deadpool 2 was testing poorly, a new report reveals the exact opposite, with the sequel landing a near-perfect score. Deadpool 2 has tested three times, with the first screening scoring a 91 and the second a 97. The final test, which was held in Dallas, featured two separate cuts of the movie, one scoring a 98 and the other scoring a 94. The original Deadpool tested at a 91, and went on to shatter box office records in February 2016, so it's possible that the sequel could be poised for a huge debut.

While there are no details about how the two cuts at the final test screening in Dallas were different, sources claimed the studio will be releasing the cut that scored a near-perfect 98. The crew of Deadpool 2 was also said to be in attendance at the final Dallas screenings, although no specific crew members were mentioned,

Black Panther” is ready to pounce.

The Marvel-Disney tentpole is heading for a North American opening in the $100 million to $120 million range for the four-day Presidents Day weekend, early tracking showed on Thursday.

That would be a similar range to the two most recent Marvel entries — “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which launched to $117 million in its opening weekend in July, and “Thor: Ragnarok,” which debuted with $122 million on the second weekend of November. Tracking showed total awareness of “Black Panther” at 83%, unaided awareness at 35%, and definite interest at 56%.

Advance ticket sales for “Black Panther” set a new record earlier this month for Fandango as the top seller among Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in the first 24 hours, topping “Captain America: Civil War.”

Chadwick Boseman stars as T’Challa, who takes over as the king of Wakanda after his father T’Chaka is killed, as shown in “Captain America: Civil War.” The film also stars Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Michael B. Jordan

‘Fifty Shades Freed’ to Tie Up $37 Million in Opening Weekend
Universal’s “Fifty Shades Freed” should dominate its North American opening weekend on Feb. 9-11 with about $37 million, early tracking showed Thursday.

Sony’s family comedy “Peter Rabbit” is tracking for a launch that weekend in the $18 million range and Warner Bros.’ Clint Eastwood thriller “15:17 to Paris” should arrive with about $10 million.

The projected “Fifty Shades Freed” launch isn’t as strong as its predecessors “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which opened with $85.2 million in 2015, and “Fifty Shades Darker,” which opened with $46.6 million on the same weekend last year. The two films, co-starring Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, have combined to gross $950 million worldwide.

Tracking shows “Fifty Shades Freed” with an impressive 74% total awareness and 26% definite interest. E.L. James’ erotic romance trilogy was a sensation when published in 2011 and 2012. James Foley directed “Fifty Shades Freed” from a script by Niall Leonard, James’ husband.

A pair of Universal films — “Breaking In” and “Fifty Shades Freed” — dominated social media buzz last week with a combined 189,000 new conversations, according to media-measurement firm comScore and its PreAct service.

Breaking In,” a home-invasion drama starring Gabrielle Union, generated 97,000 new conversations in the wake of the release of a trailer on Jan. 11, shortly after announcing a May 11 release date for the film. “V for Vendetta” director James McTeigue helms from a script by Ryan Engle, based on a pitch from Jaime Primak Sullivan about a woman fighting to protect her family during a home invasion.

Fifty Shades Freed” drew 92,000 new conversations last week. A new trailer released on Jan. 2 revealed in the final five seconds that Dakota Johnson’s Anastasia Steele is pregnant. Official Trailer for Mountain Retreat Thriller 'Traffik' with Paula Patton

"Let's get away from the city... It's miles away from everything." Lionsgate has released the official trailer for a thriller titled Traffik, the latest from writer/director Deon Taylor. The film stars Paula Patton and Omar Epps as a couple who set off for a retreat in the mountains, but are accosted by a biker gang, who then go after them once they reach their isolated vacation rental home. The full cast includes Laz Alonso, Roselyn Sanchez, Luke Goss, Dawn Olivieri, Claude Duhamel, and Lorin McCraley. It looks like your standard angry-white-people-home-invasion thriller, where the nice people have to fight back to save themselves. I'd rather go see Breaking In, which looks like a much better twist on this concept. Have a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ official poster) for Deon Taylor's Traffik, direct from YouTube: A couple (Paula Patton, Omar Epps) off for a romantic weekend in

First Trailer for James McTeigue's Home Invasion Thriller 'Breaking In'

"I will do anything to protect my kids." Holy smokes, this looks awesome! Universal has debuted the first official trailer for a home invasion thriller titled Breaking In, which kind of twists the old home invasion concept just a bit. Gabrielle Union stars as a woman who moves with her children to her father's old home which features very high tech security. When intruders break in and lock her out, she must figure out how to break back in and rescue her kids, stopping at nothing to get back at these invaders. This is, crazy enough, the next movie from V for Vendetta director James McTeigue. The film's full cast includes Billy Burke, Richard Cabral, Seth Carr, Levi Meaden, and Ajiona Alexus. This seriously looks badass, and I am glad it has some twists on the unusual home invasion plot. I'm definitely in. This May, payback is a mother. Here's
