Sex & Nudity

  • A woman tells a man not to disturb another man cause she "fucked his brains out." She only says this to stop a man from entering a room in the house.
  • Sharon is implied to be sleeping in bed naked, but she is covered with a white sheet. Only her legs and upper-back are seen. She never gets up or lifts the blanket, so no nudity is shown.
  • Several scenes of girls in short shorts.
  • Hippie girls wear revealing blouses with no bra. This isn't provocative and nothing inappropriate is seen.
  • A female hitchhiker mentions oral sex and the driver changes the subject quickly. Might fly over a kid's head.
  • Cliff is shown with his shirt off for a little bit.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is viciously punched in the face three times and then thrown against a car. His face is shown covered in blood, and there are blood stains on the car.
  • A pit bull attacks a man. Not bloody or graphic and is meant to be funny.
  • A woman has a can of dog food thrown at her head. A close up of her bloodied and broken face is shown. The same woman runs through a plate glass door and falls into a swimming pool.
  • While the film has violent parts, it is not constant blood and gore throughout. There are only a few sequences
  • All violence is done for humor it is not sadistic or brutal
  • 90% of the bloody violence is reserved for the last 15 minutes.
  • Cliff Booth is implied to have killed his wife.
  • This is one of Tarantino's tamest films. None of its brutal besides the scene at the end of the movie, although it still isn't as bad as whats in most of his other movies.
  • Near the end of the film there is a big bloody fight sequence with a dog viciously biting two people, a woman is hit in the face with a can of dog food with her bloody face shown, a man is stabbed in the leg and then has his face stomped, a woman has her face repeatedly slammed against various objects, we then see her very bloody face and a person burned alive. This whole scene is meant for laughs but it is still pretty violent.

Profanity

  • 120 uses of "fuck". Multiple uses of "shit" and "goddamnit" throughout.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Multiple characters drink hard liquor and smoke frequently throughout the film - cigarettes and marijuana.
  • A character smokes a cigarette soaked in acid and gets high from it.
  • Some drinking. Characters are shown drunk.
  • Characters smoke weed and get high.
  • In some scenes it is implied that hippies are on acid.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The Manson Family crosses into the story and when they're onscreen, they can be unsettling
  • This movie had a lighter tone than the last couple Tarantino has done
  • Really only the ending is intense

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • An intruder tries to attack a dog by punching it in the head several times, but doesn't succeed in hurting it.
  • A man slams a woman's head into various objects and surfaces. In the most graphic scene of the movie, the man repeatedly slams the woman's head into a stone mantelpiece; blood is smeared on the stone surface. Shown very briefly
  • The woman in the swimming pool is burnt alive with a flamethrower. Later, her charred corpse is shown floating in the pool.
  • There are really only two scenes of violence in this film - in the one, a man is punched in the face. In the other, a fight breaks out after intruders break into a house.
  • Nearly all the violence in the film happens within the final 20 minutes and hits almost completely out of nowhere.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The finale of the film is intensely violent and shocking. However, the context of the violence aims to make the scene humorous instead of disturbing. Some viewers may not appreciate the humor though because of the scene's intensity.
