    Storyline

    Edit
After an unsuccessful visit to Spain to beg the Constable of Castile to finance an invasion army Robert and his cousin Thomas Wintour travel to Flanders, home to the exiled Jesuits, where they recruit the taciturn Guy Fawkes and other young Catholics prepared to die for their faith. Their aim is to blow up the opening of Parliament though they are unaware that, to Cecil's fury, the king intends to repeal the anti-Catholic laws to maintain peace with Spain at the state opening. Following a tip-off from Turner Wade ambushes the plotters, capturing militant young priest John Gerard, leading to Robert leading a daring rescue attempt to free him from the Tower of London before he can give Wade any information. —don @ minifie-1

    Episode 2
When the initial scenes of Episode 2 was set in Spain, I should had expected the Spanish Inquisition. Just as Protestants in England persecuted Catholics. Catholic Spain were burning two Spanish Jews at the stake to keep the country safe. The irony was not lost on Catesby's face.

With help from the Spanish not forthcoming, Catesby decides to assassinate King James (Derek Riddell) and rounds up a gang. Although after hearing King James speak, I have no doubt he could round up a bigger gang in Govan on a Friday night.

The scene stealing belongs to Mark Gatiss as the spymaster eyeing up Catholic plots everywhere and Shaun Dooley as his torturer in chief. Waterboarding, the rack, it is all in a day's work to him.

The episode ends with a dimly lit drawn out finale as Catesby goes to rescue one of the conspirator's, a priest being tortured by Wade. If only it was shot on infrared as I could not see a thing.
