Surprisingly good after an awkward beginning
jz-1013 May 2020
Thirty-five minutes into The Road to Edmund, I thought this was going to be another failed Christian road trip movie, along the lines of Extreme Days. The beginning was slow, awkward, forced, and self-conscious. But I kept watching, and something happened. It got good! Don't expect Hollywood polish and razzle-dazzle, but for an indie movie that's mostly conversations, it's quite good and very refreshing. I really wish I had been able to see this movie maybe forty years ago or so, when I was an adolescent dealing with these issues and my faith conflicts. Kudos to the writers!

Liked what it had to say.

To "Disappointed". God did not write the Bible. You have been brainwashed into thinking that so the church can control the people who follow without question. Otherwise known as "sheeple". So, what "word of God" are you talking about?

Good Message, but poorly executed
JJ-Chi1 April 2021
This could have been good, but the poor acting, slow pace and rather strange script distracted from a meaningful message.

Message of the film = 8 stars Execution and acting = 2 stars Script = 2.

Disappointed
I believe God loves all , we must love all. But we must not support wrong. Wrong is wrong. Purpose of the movie was basically to derail the foundation of the church . Gods word stand. Nothing and no one can change that.

NOT a Christian movie
notanaxkiller-107-28791128 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Some reviewers called this a "Christian, or Faith film". It's the antithesis of that. Instead of using the bible to address various situations, the characters used their OWN opinions. That's fine...but it didn't represent the words, or will of God. "Can Jesus and faith be a part of a swearing, drinking, smoking, homosexual supporting culture?" Obviously not....if one BELIEVES what the Bible says....and that it is the word of God. The philosophy of the characters involved came down to..."What do I believe?" Christianity comes down to this..."What does GOD believe?" "0 King James Version (KJV) 5 " Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil." Subjective morality is no morality...at all. Does God love everyone? Not according to God himself... "Psalm 5:4-6 4For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome. 5The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; 6you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, LORD, detest."..."Malachi 1:3 3but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals."

A colossal waste of time
qui_j5 April 2020
This is a movie that's a very amateurish production, with a silly script and some seriously terrible acting. The dialog just seems to be improvised and pointless. It besg the question, "Why are movies like this even made?"

Don't believe the low rating
kali_vaa7 March 2020
I was hesitant to watch this because of the low rating. But after reading reviews and a rant about how it's not a Christian movie I had to watch. It's an honest, funny, and heartfelt film. Worth seeing!

Acceptance & Love
sdudedwp12 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Knowing & reading up on this Indie film I was aware of what to expect. Although it's not the the best film I've seen it rates high with it's message. Coming from a religious background, both my husband & I, i found that it hit home. Not only with the struggling of 'coming out' but also reconciling with the Church. Recently finding a place of worship that was 'inclusive' & discussed the deconstruction of the Bible instead of hearing the same old Blah Blah Blah that we've heard for years. This gave me hope & acceptance that 'God Loves Everyone'! The message in this movie is clear! I found it funny, serious, emotional and yes, sometimes trite. But again, the message of this movie was clear.

Interesting faith-based movie
actionsub16 May 2020
Tripp Fuller (Larry) in real life is an author, podcaster, and spokesperson for a progressive expression of Christianity. As such, the average evangelical is not going to warm to the Christianity presented in The Road to Edmond. Cleo (who names a guy that?) is a youth pastor who is suspended from his position for his acceptance of a young girl in his group who comes out as a lesbian. While trying to take a bike trip to process this, his bike is damaged when Larry runs it over with his van. From there, it becomes somewhat of a buddy/journey film. Larry continues to go Socratic on Cleo in the course of the movie, and both Cleo and Larry reveal more about each other as the story continues. This would be a good movie for a college-aged group to watch and I'd recommend it highly.

Surprisingly Thoughtful
mattman14924 March 2020
It's a film where earnest, normal adults discuss organized religion, God, and the scars of their own lives and how it has affected their views on faith.

I thought it would suck, but it's actually quite good.

Excellent.
Ryskon2 February 2020
This is about as good as you could ask for, in terms of a film wrestling with questions of faith in an honest, intellectually sincere, and humane manner. If a film about Christian faith isn't your jam, you'll still likely be surprised; if it is, you're in for a treat.

Bridging the divide between Christianity and contemporary culture
christophergstanley9 January 2019
This is a faith based film that includes swearing, drinking smoking pot and the revision of recent Christian sexual ethics to the purpose of bridging the cultural divide between Christianity and the large number of people who smoke pot, swear, drink and find no issue with homosexuality. Will the film work - hopefully. Can Jesus and faith be a part of a swearing, drinking, smoking, gay supporting culture - sure.

A Christian Buddy Comedy
ahmed_costa26 December 2018
This film is less about Christianity and the Church and more about the process of deconstruction. I felt alone in my journey when I started deconstructing my faith in bible college. The church I worked at alienated me until finally giving me the ax when I told a high schooler that God loved him no matter who he likes. If it wasn't for people like Larry coming into my life I don't know how I would have made it! Everyone needs their Larry!

Surprisingly thought-provoking and touching.
jmeesey-6038620 June 2020
This is supposedly a "low-budget" comedy. It is much more than that! And, it is not a "church" movie. But it is a movie that all Christians should take the time to watch. What starts out as kind of a quirky comedy becomes very spiritually thought-provoking and quite touching. It really addresses issues that the Evangelical Church community needs to seriously contemplate. Definitely time well-spent!

Church people need to watch this
lydiaholz2 March 2019
I don't know the filmmakers, but I still feel really proud of them for making this movie. The thematic content reflects a conversation that desperately needs to happen in the evangelical church. Plus, heavy themes aside, it's a fun flick. Larry's character made me smile, and the footage between Colorado and Oklahoma was pretty great, especially for a low-budget film. Most "Christian" movies suck. This one is actually worth watching.

A journey toward discovering values
mikekanderson26 December 2018
I enjoyed riding along with the characters on their road to discovering openness, closure, beliefs, and values. With a soft touch and deep connection, this film challenged what I say I believe and confronted me with the crisis of facing what I really believe, and what I'm willing to do to be true to myself, loving to others, and reflecting the character of the divine.

What the film lacked in budget and seasoned acting, it made up for in connection to the landscape, connection with the characters, and a message that was deep and provoking while still being gentle and accessible.

I would recommend this as a must-see for anyone who is struggling with a sense of loss from their tribe or rejection from their authority figures, and is ready to ask the deep questions of what it means to love, and what it takes to live a life faithful to our beliefs.
