"At this point..." = the repeated voiced phrase, which signifies the script writer's signature
supadude200418 September 2018
This reviewer found that the first episode of Scariest Night of My Life, Season one, was quite well produced, considering the limits of the genre. Alas, by the second episode all was not so well. For the scriptwriter's handiwork becomes all too visible IF you would listen carefully....

Why do so many of the shows presumably independent contributors, speaking (one must assume) of their own volition, have to say the phrase "At this point...", at least once!?

Is it at all plausible that in so many episodes, no matter what is the social background, gender or age, of any given narrator - during their narration, the phrase "At this point...." will still be voiced by so many of them? In life, I might say that I know perhaps two people who will regularly say "at this point" when recalling what happened to them one remarkable day, but by no means do most persons say that phrase , using those exact three words, when retelling any story. And I'm confident the same applies to you too.

The other problem with this series is the formulaic way by which all recounts increasingly build towards an apex of scariness and then just end, once the most fearsome 'money' shots are delivered. There is no provision for any "what happened next?"or "...so did anything like that happen again?" type of queries.

Despite its production and acting being otherwise reasonable enough - why produce this series as a 'documentary' at all, when the evidence suggests otherwise? That is, to pad it out with any scripted BS, is arguably also to disrespect the few who have come forward bravely to tell their tales, as such happened to them; not to mention its viewers!

Lastly, in saying as above it is also conceded as follows: It may well be that one or two contributors, are fond of saying 'at this point' when retelling stories to friends, and family. And, that, of course, may well be so - with all respect and no offence whatsoever to those few who happen to say so naturally. However, please don't blame the messenger - especially when you can listen for yourself, for that surprisingly over-present signature. Besides which, it's accepted that not everyone who appears on this, is dancing 'only to the production team's tune'. Nonetheless, it just can't be that so many different narrators who appear on Scariest Night Of My Life, just happen to say that same distinctive phrase, at some point, during all too many if not all given reminiscence. Surely not!?

Not the worst but pretty close!

Supposedly true stories? I can accept the possibility. However, these are not stories told by eyewitnesses. These are scripted stories read by someone: lousy actor, poorly educated eyewitness, whatever. Obviously scripted and very poorly read. Solution 1: Get better writers and hire decent actors or a host to read the new and improved scripts. Solution 2: let the people tell you their own story in their own words. Replace writers with quality producers and editors. Problem solved!

Yawn

The only scary thing about this show is the amount of people believe these stories are actually true. They're ok for a casual viewing but get awfully repetitive.

Back the cameras up please

I just watched half an episode that was zoomed in on the woman's mouth and an inch all around Including the spit that was connecting her top and bottom teeth. It was magical.

Can't do it.

Might have fun stories , but it's horribly out together

Listening to the idiots theorize about what and why
hcurrie7710 December 2018
At thr end of this makes it unbearable. I have a very very low tolerance for stupidity. Listening to people make up reasons why ghost come back from the dead and terrorize to tell their tales is the worst part of this show. Some of the stupid garbage people come up with just kills me. With all the knowledge and technical advantages we have i cannot believe that so many people believe in stuff like unlucky 13 and black cats. Wow just wow

Poorly executed
imdb-2528810 November 2021
Great idea but so poorly executed. The drone tone of the people interviewed puts you in a stupor, and there is way too much camera on the interviewees' faces, not enough reenactment. Said reenactment is so poorly executed. Example: in El Diablo/From the Darkness, the 2nd story is so badly done. A man in a bed, for interminable minutes. Then "ghosts" appear but they're just non-scary, innocuous actors in extremely bad effects: they're "written over" for transparency and with marks (lines, dots) on their faces, as in cancel lines written over them. The guy goes on and on about not much of anything and the reenactment is very boring, with just the transparent non-scary "ghosts" around his bed. Ok, yawn.

The whole show is pretty much like that. Look, I know this is Canada and they have less money but really, they can't find exciting goth props? Something to make this more exciting? Not even much in the sense of "dark clouds moving behind/over full moon" for establishing shots. I find myself busy at the computer and only glancing once in a while. This show is very boring and I've probably overrated it by 3 stars at 6/10. I just want to encourage these productions to not quit but do it better.

Again and again, cinematographers like the ones from Mysteries at the Museum are sorely needed here. Set decorators. Set the mood. Film your establishing shots and make them spooky-goth. Give us properly decorated sets for the apartments and houses and less cam on the faces, more reenactment. Watch Extreme Paranormal, they do it better. Learn from them and serve us something watchable because this is pretty much crap.

Anybody got some spooky wav files they could send this prod? That would improve things. SCARE US, DARN IT! Or make it visually appealing. Either, or.

Terrifying!
Duskangels25 September 2023
This is among the best horror stories I've ever seen. Don't listen to the naysayers and city slickers. Their tastes just don't line up with us average everyday people. If you're not desensitized by the horror genre then this is for you! Most of these interview are very believable and authentic. You can just hear the fear in their voices as they retell the Scariest night of their lives." My favorite episodes are Ward 13, Shadow of a doubt, Awoken,The Witch, Ghostman and Robin, and a few more I can't name right now. The last reviewer had no clue what they're talking about. These weren't scripted. So, if you don't trust the words the pompous elites from rotten tomatoes, then don't trust theirs either. This show is the best it gets.
