I watched 20 minutes and had to turn off. The concepts are interesting but the application fails hard. An over-reliance on jump scares and harsh musical instrumentation mixed with bad acting and completely unbelievable actions-reactions from the characters was too much for me to handle.
The production values are good, but that's like praising the plates, knives and forks while eating a crap sandwich.
It seems all the good script writers and actors have retreated to their underground bunkers during Corona.
C'mon Gal, tell us again, were all in this together!

"Strange Events" sort of cash in on the success of "Stranger Things", not only by its title, but also by its title music which is very reminiscent of that TV series.
Regardless, I decided to watch "Strange Events", even though I had no idea what I was getting myself into, aside from it being a horror movie. Turned out that this was a horror anthology. Yeah, I know right, and I was going 'oh, this is going to be interesting', as I really like anthologies.
But the matter of the fact is that "Strange Events" wasn't particularly interesting or entertaining. In fact, I ended up turning it off after 46 minutes of enduing a less than mediocre foray into various aspects of horror. Now, it should be said that some of the segments that I managed to sit through were interesting and definitely had potential, but others were downright abysmal and so boring you want to claw out your eyes.
I gave up after 46 minutes of being relatively bored. So I just opted to toss in the towel and not finish the rest of the movie, especially because I felt my eyelids growing more and more heavy with each passing segment.
Some of the segments actually had fairly adequate acting performances, and it was also nice to see unfamiliar faces on the screen - which is something that I definitely enjoy. But it wasn't enough to lift up this sinking movie experience.
If you enjoy horror anthologies, then your money, time and effort is better spent elsewhere.

I have no idea what these reviews are talking about. This is a series, with episodes. Over 120 minutes all together, not 77. I had to recheck, in case I was on the wrong page. I'm not. This is a really strangely done series. The acting isn't great, the scripting is weird, and kind of high schoolish. I almost feel like high schoolers would have done a better job. Some of the stories have legitimately no ending. You're left in confusion, which is frustrating. Honestly, the show makes great background noise, but really isn't worth the watch.
But, like shot on a phone, by your friends.
But by your talented and smart friends, who really show promise as filmmakers.
I really enjoyed it, I gave it a 7.
I liked the stories it tells, I enjoy indie horrors because they're fun, often innovative either out of creativity or necessity.
The production values acting and writing?
I told you I liked it, because I did.
For the production values think small town cable commercial, or forklift training video maybe? I can't say they're bad, these people aren't incompetent. But with this budget.
The acting isn't horrible, everyone played their parts, no one was reading off a card or stammering their way through.
I think the writing was pretty good.
It's very indie, very low budget, not "amateurish" and not incompetent. But if that's not your thing you probably shouldn't watch it. But hey, it's on prime, give it a look you can always quit.
This is one of those films where, after watching it I thought. I'd really like to see these guys get to make something with a real budget.
