Great return to classic Bollywood melodrama
20 April 2019 | by kumoySee all my reviews

If you're a 2 minute noodle, this movie isn't for you. It's a slow, epic, deeply moving burn. Visually stunning, this period piece gains too from superb acting by Varun Dhawan, the peerless Madhuri Dixit & Kunal Khemu. Alia Bhatt sparkles in her innocence & her chemistry with Varun is something else. Background score & songs are very mellifluous with each song adding depth & distance to the plot. Kudos to Dharma for courageously going unabashedly retro & above all, raising intelligent questions in election year.
