In 19th century Ireland, folklore has a strong hold. Michael Cleary is convinced his wife, Bridget, has been replaced by a fairy called a changeling. And his belief drives him to the most extreme act.

Factual Error: 'Raths' are Iron Age forts, as correctly referred to in the episode, but are not usually referred to as 'Fairy Rings' or carry the same mystique as the so called 'Fairy Rings' of Ireland (and Scotland) that are usually stone circles dating from the late Neolithic / Bronze Age c. 4000-1200BC which do have a lot of mystique superstition and lore about them.
