Five years after her husband and daughter are killed in a senseless act of violence, a woman comes back from self-imposed exile to seek revenge against those responsible and the system that let them go free.
Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities, take fate into their own hands, and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.
The drug war on the U.S.-Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver re-teams with the mercurial Alejandro.
Benicio Del Toro,
An unidentified woman is engaged in a brutal fight with a man in a car and finally dispatches him with a shot to the head. Five years earlier, the same woman, Riley North, is working as a banker in Los Angeles struggling to make ends meet. Her husband Chris owns a failing mechanic shop. They have a ten-year-old daughter, Carly. Chris' friend tries to talk him into robbing Diego Garcia, a powerful drug lord. Chris turns him down, but not before Garcia has already discovered his involvement and ordered his men to make an example of him. Riley and Chris take Carly out for pizza and to a carnival for her birthday since no one showed up to her party. At the carnival, Carly orders peppermint ice cream. As the family walks to the car, Diego's men gun down her husband and daughter in a drive-by shooting. She is wounded, but survives.
The film has often been compared to, and even accused of ripping off, The Punisher character from the Marvel comics and indeed there are many similarities between both Riley North and Frank Castle / The Punisher: * Riley lives in a rundown van filled with weapons. * Riley's family was caught in the crossfire of a mob shootout while she survived. * Riley dedicates her life to becoming a vigilante and punishing criminals including the ones responsible for her family's death. * Riley's only memento of her family is a family photograph. * Riley wishes to die after she finally has her revenge, feeling that she has nothing left to live for. The movie takes place in Los Angeles, California. All the police vehicles in the movie are missing a steady red light when their emergency lights are on. According to the California Vehicle Code, all emergency and law enforcement vehicles are required to have at least one steady red light on facing forward when the front emergency lights are on.. An enjoyable vigilante film with a great performance by Jenniffer Garner as a mother who sets out for revenge against the cartels that killed her family. It may not be a as memorable as other revenge movies, and the genre may be overused as a whole, but it is hard to say I didn't have fun seeing Garner's character blowing cartels' heads open or the occasional humor that the movie offers. Also hard to say I didn't have a good time.
