Giles and Monica go to Fogo Island Inn off the wild and rugged north east coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Fogo Island is very small, rocky and remote and in the Atlantic Ocean with a history of fishing.
The hotel was built only a few years ago balancing on zig-zagged stilts. It only has 29 rooms with locally sourced materials. It is an expensive hotel and brings enterprise to an island where fishing is disappearing and so are the local islanders.
Monica helps out in the kitchen and learns to grow the perfect potato. She talks to the kitchen staff some of whom have left family behind to spend time at this remote island and pursue their careers as a chef.
My problem was that I really did not find the hotel that amazing. I admire businesswoman Zita Cobb returning to the island where she grew up to revitalize it after making her fortune on IT. The program was just not that interesting.
