Barely watchable, barely an awards show

Here we got the award-nominated Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2017 and the title is telling as this is the most recent edition (at this point) of the world's biggest kids awards ceremony for the entertainment industry. I thought it was dreadful to watch. First of all, it was more of a mix of concert and film promo event (GotG, Smurfs, Wonder Woman and more) than really an award show, even if it got better in the second half. Host John Cena proves that comedy absolutely isn't his thing and still the worst fail attempt at humor goes to the boy making the cringeworthy Moonlight reference and he even won an award besides apparently having no acting talent at all. Ellen DeGeneres got one as every year too and her speech about being happy with who and what you are was one of many pseudo-inspiring moments from the night that were very cringeworthy. I am sure they also talked to the winners if the could unleash the slime at them, so I'm pretty sure this was 99% staged and scripted to be honest. By the way, does anybody still think the slime idea is creative or funny? The only good thing I can say is that the spectacle near the end was probably somewhat memorable for everybody in the room, not for audiences at home I guess as there is really no remote reason I could recommend them to watch this one. Awards were way too rare and it seems the few occasions they handed one out they made sure to include all other kinds of wins for the same project, so they had more time for the non-awards stuff. In addition, gently-speaking, the awards winners weren't the most talented bunch I'd say. So as a whole I am definitely glad this only ran for a bit over an hour, certainly shorter than previous editions. I give it a thumbs-down and highly recommend to skip the watch here. If you are a responsible parent, you won't let your kid anywhere near this gigantic mess. Even I as an award ahow junkie cannot say anything positive about it.
