The film originally started as a short story by Andrew Nuno about a male protagonist walking around the city of Chicago at night. It wasn't until Andrew pitched the idea to Lauryn Lugo that she suggested the protagonist be female and then offered to write the screenplay based off his story changing the setting to an unnamed suburban town.
