Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A young child is violently snatched by an unknown creature, presumably dying. This is shown twice from two different angles.
  • A creature is shot in its face with a shotgun, pieces of its head splatter all over the floor. It appears to be choking on its own blood. The brain matter is left on the floor for the entire scene.
  • A man is attacked and ripped to pieces off camera.
  • At the end of the film one of the aliens is shot in the head by a shotgun, realistic red blood goes every where, later the alien chokes on its own blood, pretty graphic for a PG-13 film.
  • An elderly woman is killed off screen and she is found by the main characters. The elderly woman has a graphic, deep wound into her guts, and you can see some of her guts for a brief second. She also has some blood coming out of her mouth, her husband kills himself by screaming to attract the alien, and he is killed by the alien's sharp claws. This scene is the goriest in the whole film and probably the goriest scene in a PG-13 film in a decade.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Near the start of the movie, a young child is snatched by a quickly moving alien, as the father rushes to save him to no avail. The mother is shown as already knowing he won't make it in time. This frightening scene is dwelt upon during the rest of the movie, including further discussion, visiting the site, photos of the child, grief, blame, etc., etc.
  • The death of a main character towards the end of the film is emotionally intense, especially his words, which preceed his death.
  • The monsters are extremely disturbing. They are humanoids with spider-like limbs, rotting flesh, and jagged teeth. They have armor-like "panels" on their eyeless faces that extend using sinewy muscles to reveal hearing organs on the side of their heads.
