Netflix Is Adding Tons Of Great Horror Movies And TV Shows In March

Netflix Is Adding Tons Of Great Horror Movies And TV Shows In March
With February 29th fast approaching – this is a Leap Year, remember – Netflix is preparing to roll out a fresh helping of new content for March 2020.

It’s a familiar combination of original series, time-honored classics and beloved franchise films, with next month set to herald the arrival of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and its undead sequel, Extinction. Sure, it’s a far cry from the quality and craft of The Lord of the Rings – speaking of which, both the Twin Towers and The Return of the King will be departing Netflix in four weeks’ time – but the saga of Alice still carved out an audience to call its own.

Also peppered throughout Netflix’s March 2020 catalog are some big-name horror titles and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, including Signs and the third season of Ozark. And then there’s the third season of Castlevania, which, it’s fair to say, has been a long time coming.

New on Netflix: March 2020 Releases

New on Netflix: March 2020 Releases
Alec Bojalad Feb 19, 2020

Here's what's new on Netflix in March 2020! We've got a complete list of what's leaving, too.

Normally the big story for each month of Netflix new releases are the exciting batch of Netflix original series and movies arriving. For Netflix's new releases for March 2020, things are a little bit different. Yes, there are some cool originals here but...look at those movies!

March 1 sees the arrival of Corpse Bride, The Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood, and Goodfellas! Martin Scorsese likely can't unilaterally decide when and where his movies stream, but it is a happy coincidence that Goodfellas will now exist alongside The Irishman.

As for those Netflix originals...Ozark is the biggest returning hit in March. The story of a very corrupt family airs its third season on March 27. Also of note are Castlevania season 3 (March 5), Altered Carbon: Resleeved (March 19). But really after Goodfellas, nothing else was really necessary.

Harrison Ford Says Indiana Jones 5 Will Resolve Part Of Indy’s History
After more than three years in and out of development, it looks like things are finally moving forward for Indiana Jones 5. And while we still know very little about Dr. Jones’ fifth and most likely final big screen adventure, star Harrison Ford has at least offered a few vague teases of what’s in store.

Speaking to IGN, the actor remained tight-lipped about specific plot details, but he hinted that the movie will somehow revisit an element from Indy’s past:

“Well, I’m not going to share the story with you because that doesn’t seem like a good idea. But we’ll see new developments in his life, his relationship. We’ll see part of his history resolved.”

Ford also mentioned that “it’s a very good script,” and said he was “looking forward” to working on the film.

That script has had quite a journey these past few years,

Japan Box Office Leaps to $2.4 Billion Record in 2019

  • Variety
Japan Box Office Leaps to $2.4 Billion Record in 2019
The Japanese box office leaped by 17% in 2019 to set a record $2.4 billion score, according to figures announced Tuesday by the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan, locally known as Eirin. The previous high was the $2.2 billion recorded in 2016.

The Makoto Shinkai animation “Weathering with You” was the highest earning film among both local and foreign releases with a gross of $129 million.

Local films took a majority share with 54% or $1.3 billion, while foreign films grabbed a 46% share or $1.1 billion. The market share split was little changed from 2018.

Once again industry leader Toho accounted for the lion’s share of the box office, having handled seven of the top ten local films, including the period actioner “Kingdom” that it co-released with Sony. The other three were released by a resurgent Toei.

Total admissions rose 15% to 195 million, outstripping the growth in the number of operational screens, which edged up from 3,561 the year before

British Stars Carey Mulligan, Himesh Patel Compile ‘Alternative BAFTA’ Nominees List

British Stars Carey Mulligan, Himesh Patel Compile ‘Alternative BAFTA’ Nominees List
British stars including Carey Mulligan, Himesh Patel and Gemma Arterton have contributed to an ‘Alternative BAFTAs’ list of nominees that honors talent overlooked by this year’s awards.

The campaign is organized by Time’s Up U.K., which is rolling out a social media blitz this week in the lead-up to Sunday’s BAFTA awards honoring the women and actors of color they feel should have been recognized by the British Academy, whose film awards nominations earlier this month were heavily criticized for shutting out actors of color, resulting in the hashtag #BaftasSoWhite.

Critics also took aim at the lack of female directors in a year when Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” and Lorene Scafaria’s “Hustlers” were audience favorites as well as box office hits.

Mulligan, whose turn in “Promising Young Woman” is garnering early acclaim out of Sundance, said she would nominate “Hustlers” director Scafaria, while Arterton

McKay, who recently closed a five-year, overall television deal with HBO and HBO Max, is attached to write and direct the first episode. The plan is for the first season to enlist top directors and writers to join in creating a provocative and entertaining series that taps into our unease with just how delicately our planet is teetering on the precipice.

In Asia, Local Language Content, ‘6 Underground’ Most Popular on Netflix in 2019

In Asia, Local Language Content, ‘6 Underground’ Most Popular on Netflix in 2019
Netflix released lists of its most popular content in Japan, Korea, India and Malaysia on Monday, showing that a mix of American shows and local language content best captured hearts and eyeballs in Asia this year — with Michael Bay’s “6 Underground” the only title that proved a top hit in all territories.

Netflix said the most-watched lists had been made by tallying the number of accounts that had streamed at least two minutes of the content in question during its first 28 days on the platform in 2019.

In Japan, five out of ten of the top ten works of the year are Netflix originals. Three are animated, while a fourth is a live-action adaptation of an anime. The top-viewed content was the semi-biographical live-action Japanese-language series “The Naked Director,” which chronicles Japan’s porn industry in the 1980s through the story of real-life, controversial adult video director Toru Muranishi, played by Takayuki Yamada.
