Showtime’s 2018 Emmy Fyc mailer introduces voters to red-hot contenders ‘The Chi,’ ‘Smilf,’ ‘Twin Peaks’ and more

Showtime’s expansive 2018 Emmy Fyc mailer will soon be arriving on the doorsteps of the TV academy membership. While the premium network previously shipped three series-specific mailers back in April for drama series “The Chi,” comedy series “Smilf” and limited series “Twin Peaks,” they’ve now sent out a fourth mailer featuring all of their eligible Emmy submissions. Included is recent Emmy winner “Shameless,” two-time champ for Best Comedy Stunts and four-time nominee for William H. Macy as Best Comedy Actor. Look for Emmy favorite Claire Danes and repeat nominee Mandy Patinkin to be major players again in the acting categories, along with Lesli Linka Glatter for directing the drama series.

What’s Coming to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime in May 2018

Literary adaptions and beloved franchises abound in the incoming May arrivals to Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix. Amazon alone has acquired the screen revivals of multiple classic novels, including renditions of Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre,” Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” and Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express.”

Also coming to Amazon and Hulu this May is the entire “Rocky” franchise, while Hulu has clinched all six “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. Netflix, meanwhile, will add scattered saga installments, including the original “Shrek,” “Scream 2,” and “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.”

A mix of original and acquired TV shows are also set to hit the streaming services next month. The new Showtime series “Patrick Melrose,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will stream on Hulu, while Amazon Prime will debut its original animated series “Rocky & Bullwinkle.” Also incoming are past seasons of shows like “Scandal,” “Orphan Black,” and “Running Wild With Bear Grylls.

Showtime Launches App For LG Smart TVs

Showtime’s stand-alone streaming service and its authentication service app Showtime Anytime are now available for LG Smart TVs. The premium cabler says it is the first cable network to launch on LG webOS Smart TV platforms.

LG Smart TV users can download the Showtime streaming app by going to the LG Content Store on their television. After signing up for a seven-day free-trial, new subscribers can continue the service for $10.99 per month. The Showtime Anytime app is available at no additional cost, through participating providers.

Through the service, subscribers will have unlimited on demand access to entire seasons of original series Homeland, The Chi, Billions, Ray Donovan, Smilf, The Affair, Shameless, Twin Peaks and I’m Dying Up Here and the upcoming limited series Patrick Melrose. Watch Benedict Cumberbatch In the Trailer for Showtime's Limited Series Patrick Melrose

Showtime has released a trailer for their new limited series Patrick Melrose which stars Benedict Cumberbatch. Patrick Melrose is based on a series of novels written by Edward St. Aubyn. This five-part limited series follows the main character’s journey from a very troubled childhood through adult substance abuse and, ultimately, toward recovery.

Cumberbatch's character struggles to overcome the damage inflicted by an abusive father and the mother. He is joined by Academy Award nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh and Hugo Weaving, who play the parents of Patrick Melrose.

Each episode is based on one of the five novels and is written by David Nicholls and directed by Edward Berger (Deutchland 83, Jack).

Sky has launched the first look trailer for new series Patrick Melrose starring Benedict Cumberbatch – who has a soft spot with eccentric characters – with a brief introduction into the character.

First image of Benedict Cumberbatch in Patrick Melrose

The first official image from the upcoming Sky Atlantic and Showtime miniseries Patrick Melrose has arrived online, showing Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character in the adaptation of Edward St Aubyn’s book series.

The five-part series has been penned by David Nicholls (One Day) and each episode will be based on one of St Aubyn’s novels, taking place in the south of France in the 1960s, New York in the 1980s and Britain in the early 2000s. Cumberbatch stars as the aristocratic playboy alongside Hugo Weaving, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Anna Madeley, Allison Williams and Blythe Danner.

“We are delighted to be part of this incredible series,” said Cumberbatch. “We have been huge fans of these books for many years and David Nicholls’ adaptations are extraordinary.”

Patrick Melrose is slated to air in 2018.

‘Riviera’, ‘Bounty Hunters’ To Get Second Seasons At Sky

In an official press release, Sky has revealed that it has commissioned second seasons of Julia Stiles-led south of France crime series Riviera, as well as another run for Jack Whitehall’s Bounty Hunters. It also confirmed Gareth Evans’ Gangs Of London, which we reported news of yesterday and a total of 50 original series for broadcast in 2018.

24 of the 50 productions are returning shows, so says the broadcaster.

Following its phenomenal success earlier this year Sky’s best-performing original series to date, Riviera returns with Julia Stiles reprising the role of Georgina Clios for another high-octane series about the lives of the super-rich on the Côte d’Azur. Jack Whitehall’s comedy thriller Bounty Hunters is set to return for more action and adventure. And brand-new drama Gangs of London, a fresh and original gangland thriller, will take viewers on an adrenaline-fuelled journey into the hidden heart of the capital.

Following on from some set photos which saw the actor filming on the streets of Scotland while donning an eye patch, Sky Atlantic and Showtime have unveiled the first official image of Benedict Cumberbatch in Patrick Melrose, his latest TV project. The Sherlock star is looking dapper as the titular protagonist, decked out in sunglasses, a fashionable scarf and coat and a cigarette in hand.

For those unfamiliar with the project, Patrick Melrose is a five-part series based on the semi-autobiographical novels of Edward St. Aubyn, which follow his dysfunctional upbringing as part of an upper-class English family and his later alcohol and heroin addictions, as well as his loves and losses. No, the Sherlock and Marvel star is not ditching Doctor Strange to play a new version of Nick Fury in the McU. In today’s film news roundup, Allison Williams will star in the horror-thriller “The Perfection,” “The Last Chinese Chef” moves into development, and the WGA unionizes the staffs of Gothamist and DNAinfo.

Casting

Allison Williams will star in the horror-thriller “The Perfection,” with “Girls” director Richard Shepard attached.

Shepard wrote the script with the team of Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder. “The Perfection” centers on a pair of cello prodigies and their sinister obsession.

Miramax will finance and CEO Bill Block will produce with Shepard and Stacey Reiss. The producers are aiming to start production in early 2018 in Shanghai and Vancouver.

Capstone Group is handling international sales for the film and will introduce it to buyers at the American Film Market, which opens Nov. 1 in Santa Monica, Calif. Williams starred in Jordan Peele’s horror-thriller “Get Out” and worked with Shepherd on several episodes of HBO’s “Girls.”
