‘Patrick Melrose’ Season 2 in ‘the Exploratory Phase’ at Showtime
Showtime’s limited series “Patrick Melrose” may not be so limited anymore. The network is in early discussions to bring the Benedict Cumberbatch-led series back for a second season.

“It is very early in the exploratory phase, but Showtime would love the opportunity to work with Benedict, Edward, David, Teddy and the series’ producers again,” a Showtime spokesperson told TheWrap.

Based on the Patrick Melrose series of semi-autobiographical novels written by Edward St. Aubyn, “Patrick Melrose” is an acerbic and fearless look at the protagonist’s harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood to his remarkable survival as an adult, per Showtime’s description.

Each episode was devoted to one of St. Aubyn’s five novels, so a second season would not be based on any prior source material.

BAFTA TV Awards 2019: ‘Killing Eve’ & ‘Patrick Melrose’ Score Top Awards As Winners Revealed
Killing Eve and Patrick Melrose were the big winners at the BAFTA TV Awards in London.

The BBC America drama, which was created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, took home the best drama series award as well as for Jodie Comer as best actress and Fiona Shaw for best supporting actress. In the main drama category, it beat breakout BBC One terror hit Bodyguard, BBC/Amazon co-pro Informer and Sky sleeper hit Save Me.

Comer, who plays murderous lead Villanelle, beat her Killing Eve co-star Sandra Oh as well as Bodyguard’s Keely Hawes and Mrs Wilson’s Ruth Wilson in the lead actress category. Comer thanked her “inspiration” Waller-Bridge as well as Boardwalk Empire’s Stephen Graham, who helped her out early in her career, and her Nana Frances in the last award of the night.

"Killing Eve" & "A Very English Scandal" Dominate BAFTA TV Nominations

"Killing Eve" and "A Very English Scandal" are leading the line at this BAFTA TV Awards and BAFTA TV Craft Awards after scoring 26 nominations between them.

The BBC America drama and the BBC/Amazon co-pro have scored the most nominations for the event, which takes place at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 12 May. "Killing Eve" has scored 14 nominations for the TV awards and the TV craft awards, which takes place on Sunday 28 April at The Brewery, London, while "A Very English Scandal" has picked up 12 nominations.

"Patrick Melrose" has secured six nominations across the two events, while "Bodyguard" and "The Little Drummer Girl" have picked up five each.

Benedict Cumberbatch And Jake Gyllenhaal To Star In Psychological Thriller Rio

Having wrapped filming on the TV drama Brexit and helped spawn 14,000,605 fan theories with Avengers: Infinity War, Benedict Cumberbatch continues to stay busy via the upcoming psychological thriller Rio, with the actor co-producing the project and co-starring opposite fellow Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal.

Not to be confused with that animated bird movie of the same name, Rio tells the story of two old friends – a successful financier played by Cumberbatch, and a journalist played by Gyllenhaal – who meet again in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The film’s to be directed by Edward Berger, who’s already worked with Cumberbatch on the recent TV series Patrick Melrose, and is produced by StudioCanal along with Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland’s company SunnyMarch, and Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker’s Nine Stories.

“Patrick Melrose” director Edward Berger is re-teaming with Benedict Cumberbatch for the thriller “Rio” with Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal producing and starring.

Call Me by Your Name” helmer Luca Guadagnino had been attached last year to direct “Rio,” but fell out due to scheduling commitments. Production companies Studiocanal, Sunnymarch, and Nine Stories confirmed the attachments of Berger, Cumberbatch, and Gyllenhaal on Friday.

Producers on “Rio” are Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland through SunnyMarch, and Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker through Nine Stories. Ron Halpern and Shana Eddy are overseeing for Studiocanal.

The story, written by Steven Knight, centers on two old friends who meet again in Rio de Janeiro — one, a journalist played by Gyllenhaal, and the other, a hugely successful financier, portrayed by Cumberbatch.

Showtime’s 2018 Emmy Fyc mailer introduces voters to red-hot contenders ‘The Chi,’ ‘Smilf,’ ‘Twin Peaks’ and more

Showtime’s expansive 2018 Emmy Fyc mailer will soon be arriving on the doorsteps of the TV academy membership. While the premium network previously shipped three series-specific mailers back in April for drama series “The Chi,” comedy series “Smilf” and limited series “Twin Peaks,” they’ve now sent out a fourth mailer featuring all of their eligible Emmy submissions. What’s Coming to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime in May 2018

Literary adaptions and beloved franchises abound in the incoming May arrivals to Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix. Amazon alone has acquired the screen revivals of multiple classic novels, including renditions of Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre,” Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” and Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express.”

Also coming to Amazon and Hulu this May is the entire “Rocky” franchise, while Hulu has clinched all six “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. Netflix, meanwhile, will add scattered saga installments, including the original “Shrek,” “Scream 2,” and “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.”

A mix of original and acquired TV shows are also set to hit the streaming services next month. The new Showtime series “Patrick Melrose,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will stream on Hulu, while Amazon Prime will debut its original animated series “Rocky & Bullwinkle.” Also incoming are past seasons of shows like “Scandal,” “Orphan Black,” and “Running Wild With Bear Grylls.

Showtime Launches App For LG Smart TVs

Showtime’s stand-alone streaming service and its authentication service app Showtime Anytime are now available for LG Smart TVs. The premium cabler says it is the first cable network to launch on LG webOS Smart TV platforms.

LG Smart TV users can download the Showtime streaming app by going to the LG Content Store on their television. After signing up for a seven-day free-trial, new subscribers can continue the service for $10.99 per month. The Showtime Anytime app is available at no additional cost, through participating providers.

Through the service, subscribers will have unlimited on demand access to entire seasons of original series Homeland, The Chi, Billions, Ray Donovan, Smilf, The Affair, Shameless, Twin Peaks and I’m Dying Up Here and the upcoming limited series Patrick Melrose. Showtime has released a trailer for their new limited series Patrick Melrose which stars Benedict Cumberbatch. Patrick Melrose is based on a series of novels written by Edward St. Aubyn. This five-part limited series follows the main character’s journey from a very troubled childhood through adult substance abuse and, ultimately, toward recovery.

Cumberbatch's character struggles to overcome the damage inflicted by an abusive father and the mother. He is joined by Academy Award nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh and Hugo Weaving, who play the parents of Patrick Melrose.

First image of Benedict Cumberbatch in Patrick Melrose

The first official image from the upcoming Sky Atlantic and Showtime miniseries Patrick Melrose has arrived online, showing Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character in the adaptation of Edward St Aubyn’s book series.

The five-part series has been penned by David Nicholls (One Day) and each episode will be based on one of St Aubyn’s novels, taking place in the south of France in the 1960s, New York in the 1980s and Britain in the early 2000s. Cumberbatch stars as the aristocratic playboy alongside Hugo Weaving, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Anna Madeley, Allison Williams and Blythe Danner.

“We are delighted to be part of this incredible series,” said Cumberbatch. “We have been huge fans of these books for many years and David Nicholls’ adaptations are extraordinary.”

Patrick Melrose is slated to air in 2018.
