Deadpool Will Be The Only X-Men Character To Survive The Disney/Fox Deal

As of yesterday, Disney’s historic takeover of Fox is complete. For superhero fans, the headline of this deal is that Marvel Studios now has the rights back to the X-Men. It hasn’t been confirmed as yet exactly what the Mouse House plans to do with the mutant-based franchise that’s been ongoing since 2000, but it’s widely assumed that Marvel president Kevin Feige will hit the reboot button. Word has it, though, that one character will survive the move unchanged.

As you could probably guess, even if the post title didn’t tell you, it’s Deadpool. The Hollywood Reporter has shared that Marvel intends to keep Ryan Reynolds on as the Merc with the Mouth but the rest of the X-Men will be recast when the time comes to fold Professor X and his super-powered charges into the McU. Not that this will be anytime soon, mind you,

Fox Remembered: Guillermo del Toro, Paul Feig, Steve Levitan and More on Studio’s Legacy
It’s the end of an era. On March 20, the Walt Disney Co. will complete its $71.2 billion acquisition of key assets in Rupert Murdoch’s media empire. That marks the final drumbeat for the historic 20th Century Fox as one of Hollywood’s six major studios, as brands such as FX, Fox Searchlight and NatGeo are folded into the Magic Kingdom. To memorialize the passing of a giant in the media space, Variety spoke with the filmmakers and executives responsible for some of Fox’s most memorable movies and shows.

Guillermo del Toro

Director, “The Shape of Water

“Over more than 25 years since my first film, ‘Cronos,’ began attracting attention, I cannot remember a time that I was not involved with some division of 20th Century Fox.

My good friend Jim Cameron, who has had his own share of successes at Fox, was the first person to recommend me to the studio.

Deadpool Invades The Avengers: Endgame Trailer In Hilarious New Video

While the Disney/Fox deal is still a couple of days away from closing, YouTuber Mightyraccoon! has already brought Deadpool into the McU with a new edit of the latest Avengers: Endgame trailer.

Earning over 3 million views in the last couple of days, the video finds a way of inserting the Merc with a Mouth into almost every frame of last week’s preview, and by the standards of fan edits, it’s remarkably well done. Highlights include Wade Wilson getting shot in the face with an arrow and getting hit on the back of the head with Thor’s axe, not to mention the climactic clip of an all-Deadpool team rocking the new white suits.

Fox Executive Says X-Men: Dark Phoenix Is Being Hurt By Disney Merger

Right now, Dark Phoenix isn’t looking too good. Due to the Disney/Fox merger, it’s almost certainly going to be the final mainline X-Men film since the series began way back in 2000. On top of that, it’s also been beset by bad publicity, with the movie having gone through extensive reshoots, tested terribly with audiences and had its release date pushed back several times. On top of all that, the trailers look pretty unimpressive.

Now, we’re hearing that the film’s being hampered by key Fox personnel leaving the company in advance of the merger. Vanity Fair’s reporting that “anxiety is running high on the Fox lot,” as employees there wonder if they’ll have a job after this merger goes through. After all, if the stuff you’re doing is already being done by someone at Disney, what reason would they have to keep you on?

Noah Hawley Still Wants To Make The ‘Doctor Doom’ Film But Doesn’t Know If It Fits Into Marvel Studios’ “25,000-Year” Plan

With news that the impending Disney/Fox merger is going to be complete next week, the future of Marvel Studios and the incoming “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four”-related characters is still uncertain. We do know that multiple films featuring Fox’s superheroes are either in post-production or in the development stage, but we’re still not 100% sure which will survive, outside of “Dark Phoenix,” which seems to be definitely coming in June.

The Fantastic Four And X-Men Come Home To Marvel Studios Next Week

For these last few months, it’s consistently felt like the Disney/Fox merger was just around the corner, only for the deal to be pushed back a little further, but as per a new media release from Disney, it seems that we’re now slightly over a week away from the acquisition being finalized.

As it stands, the historic deal is expected to close by 12:02 am Et on Wednesday, March 20th. Before that, it’s said that the deadline for Fox shareholders to elect the form of consideration they’d like to receive is 5 pm Et this Thursday, and that Fox is expected to distribute these holdings at 8 am Et on Tuesday, March 19th. After that, the transaction will reportedly be complete less than 24 hours later.

In case it needed to be said, the deal is set to bring about some huge changes in the entertainment industry, but for Marvel Studios in particular,

20 X-Men Fan Castings Better Than What We Got

It almost feels like the world has forgotten about the X-Men. After the poorly received X-Men: Apocalypse and a slew of production issues with the upcoming Dark Phoenix, Xavier's mutants are just not on people's radars like they used to be. Sure, there's a bit of news regarding the almost guaranteed Fox/Disney merger that will bring the X-Men into the McU, but we still can't be certain of how relevant they will be alongside characters like Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and The Incredible Hulk. Still, there are many X-Men fans out there that are praying for the day when their favorite characters are back on the big-screen and stealing Groot and Rocket Racoon's thunder. One of the ways that the X-Men will return to their former glory is if they are re-cast with spectacular actors who can breathe life into them. In the past, many fantastic performers have portrayed the X-Men.

X-Men: A Timeline Of The Mutant Franchise

With the recent release of the latest trailer for Dark Phoenix, X-Men fans are chomping at the bit for any morsel of new X-Men knowledge. After all, the future of this series is really up in the air. Dark Phoenix has been surrounded by publicized complications, as has the upcoming New Mutants, and could very well be the final movie in this particular franchise before the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes control and totally revamps it.

Perhaps this is a good thing, since the series has one of the most complicated and messy timelines in cinema history. Even the most devoted fans have troubles grasping it. This article will do its best to lay the X-Men movie timeline out as simply as possible even though there are tons of contradictions within the flicks. Without further ado, here is the entire timeline of the X-Men franchise.

The Batman Frontrunners Rumored, Who Are They?

The Batman Frontrunners Rumored, Who Are They?
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters in summer 2021, and it looks like the casting process is already underway. Ben Affleck recently confirmed that the Matt Reeves-directed movie is looking for a younger actor to take on the role, which has been rumored for over a year now. A wish list from Warner Bros. has reportedly leaked and it features five younger actors that could be in line to possibly play Bruce Wayne on the big screen.

The first name on The Batman list is Jack Reynor, the 27-year old Transformers: Age of Extinction star. All of the actors on this new list are under the age of 30, which would mean that those Jon Hamm and Jake Gyllenhaal rumors are out of the running, though this list has yet to be confirmed. The History Channel's Vikings and The Hunger Games star Alexander Ludwig is up next. Ludwig is 26-years

The Flickering Myth Reaction to the Shazam! trailer

The Flickering Myth writing team discuss the new Shazam! trailer…

After giving us our first look at the film back during the San Diego Comic-Con last summer, Warner Bros. and DC Films waited until a month out from its release to unveil more of their superhero comedy adventure Shazam!, with a brand new trailer arriving online this week.

Warner and DC will certainly be hoping that the Zachary Levi-headlined blockbuster will be able to continue riding the wave of success that the DC Extended Universe is experiencing following December’s mega-hit Aquaman. So, does the trailer instil confidence that the Dceu remains on course? Are we excited about the prospect of DC going down the lighter, comedic path? Here’s what our writers made of it…

Martin Carr: Looks like lots of fun and the skyscraper gag at the end had me laughing out loud. My family were unimpressed

‘Tolkien’ Official Trailer: Nicholas Hoult Tackles J.R.R. Before ‘The Lord of the Rings’
Are you a “Lord of the Rings” fan wondering where writer J.R.R. Tolkien found the inspiration to come up with Frodo, Sauron, and the entirety of Middle Earth? If you answered yes, then Fox Searchlight’s upcoming biographical drama “Tolkien” is the movie to see this summer movie season. Giving the “Rings” author the “Finding Neverland” and “Goodbye Christopher Robin” treatment, “Tolkien” looks at the life of the writer before he created Middle Earth.

The official synopsis from Fox Searchlight reads: “‘Tolkien’ explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the ‘fellowship’ apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.”

International trailer for Dark Phoenix is so much better than the last one

  • JoBlo
As Dark Phoenix could very well be the swan song for the X-men franchise before Disney officially takes over, I had hoped that I'd be much more excited for the film, but the trailers for Dark Phoenix haven't exactly blown me away. That said, we've certainly seen bad trailers for good movies and vice versa before, so it's somewhat of a relief that the international…

International Dark Phoenix Trailer Does a Better Job Selling Classic X-Men Story

International Dark Phoenix Trailer Does a Better Job Selling Classic X-Men Story
Late last week, the first Dark Phoenix trailer showed up after months and months of delays and reshoots. Fans were mildly impressed, though some called it a last gasp of air for the dying Fox franchise, which will soon be shuffled over to Disney. Today, we have a new international trailer for what will likely be the final sequel in this longstanding franchise. And many who have seen this latest footage are calling it way better than what we were served domestically.

Which is often the case. Dark Phoenix is taking on one of Marvel Comics most classic stories, mutant or otherwise, with Jean Grey realizing her potential to devastating effect. The Phoenix Saga ran from 1976 to 1977, and was later revisited in 1980. Writer Chris Claremont dropped some cosmic creepiness into his superhero tale, and it has strongly resonated ever since.

The Dark Phoenix tale was already told in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand,

New International ‘Dark Phoenix’ Trailer Is Very Different (And Decidedly Less Terrible) Than Previous Ones

A film’s trailer is supposed to do one thing, and one thing only – show why people should pay their hard-earned money to watch the movie in theaters. And the best way to do that is by effectively presenting a good mixture of emotional character moments and flashy shots to differentiate your film from the others at the multiplex.

Clearly, the recent Us trailer for “Dark Phoenix” didn’t do that.
