An American diamond merchant travels to Russia to sell rare blue diamonds of questionable origin. As the deal begins to collapse he falls into an obsessive relationship with a Russian cafe owner in a small Siberian town. As their passion builds, so does the treacherous world of the diamond trade from which he is unable to extricate himself. Both collide as the American man desperately looks for escape in a world with no exit.
"I feel sorry for the bird," a Russian saying, was heard after the toast: "And so when the flock of birds headed south for the winter, one small but proud bird said, I will fly straight to the sun! She flew higher and higher, but very soon she burned her wings and fell to the very bottom of a deep gorge. So let us drink to this: let not a single one of us ever break away from the collective, no matter how high he flies!" See more »
The town in "Siberia" (actually shot in Marquette, Manitoba Canada) has green street signs that are obviously of North American design and would not be present in the real Siberia. See more »

Lucas, it's Pyotr. You ready to get rich? You better be. There is one small thing I will need to tell you. Or maybe not so small. Maybe quite big in fact. So hurry, please. St. Petersburg is not the same without you. Dasvidaniya.

...from Soviet era, "Cold war" stamped, empty story about clean and smart American, forced to deal with those pesky, always drunk and irrationally brutal "barbarians" from Siberia. Fits the modern narrative from USA media and Hollywood propaganda machine. Seriously, Keanu? Soil your name with this cr*p? I bet you are not desperate in terms of finances. Also I heard that you are a great guy. What drags actors with nice personality into this kind of idiotic movies. Go figure. It could have had some tiny notes of exculpation if only it was made with some degree of professionalism and/or creativity. But it will be lost ("like tears in the rain";) among other tasteless "movies" about "Russian mafia". Too bad - I did expect something much more viewable than this. "Yuge" disappointment, Keanu. "Yuge".
