User Reviews

An overall masterpiece from Nintendo
12 April 2018 | by wonkertuzzSee all my reviews

As a young man who did not grow up with Nintendo, I never really cared that much about any 3D Mario game. I did play my fair share of 8 bit and 16 bit classic Mario games with emulators, and I think each of them are fantastic. I heard so much praise for almost all 3D Mario games and for good reason, as they looked fun, but with other games like Ratchet and Clank, Sonic The Hedgehog (the good ones, obviously), Crash Bandicoot, Spyro The Dragon, etc., I never really saw the point to invest my time to get and actually play a 3D Mario game. But, oh my god, how blind I was. This game is just fantastic. The visuals are amazing, each kingdom is full of life and looks amazing, the gameplay is just right, the boss battles are creative and fun, the Mario/Cappie mechanic is genius and adds a lot enjoyment to this game, the throwbacks to classic Mario are done well, the moon collecting works great and adds a lot of replay value, and the music is also great. This is seriously one of the best games I've ever played and I honestly feel really bad for not playing an earlier 3D Mario game, as, yes, this is the first 3D Mario game I've played so far, and if this is the standard for how Mario games are now, then I'll make sure to always pick a copy up, because this game alone might be better than most 3D Sonic games I've played, which is saying a lot, since I played those first. This game is fantastic and now I am excited to see what Nintendo has in store for future Mario games, because this game is one of the best I've played so far and is a masterpiece from Nintendo. I recommend anyone who has a Nintendo Switch to play this game, because even if you're not that huge of a Mario fan (like me before I played this game), this game will most likely turn you into one with its overabundance of enjoyment and overall excellence. This game is just amazing and an overall masterpiece from Nintendo.
