When Luke reads his email from Arizona State, he trails off after saying, "We regret to inform you..." and closes the laptop. Haley chimes in, "Well don't leave us in suspense!" This is a callback to the episode 'Election Day' when Alex reads Haley's rejection letter. Again, when Alex stops after "we regret to inform you...", Haley exlaims, "Well don't leave me hanging!" Also judging by his expression it is implied to be a rejection letter.

This was an excellent episode, I don't know why the top reviewer is so negative.

For a show in its 8th series at this point you expect a few more average episodes to creep in, no show is consistently wonderful throughout its run (yes, even 'Friends'), but 'Modern Family' was still able to produce more very good episodes than average.

This is one such episode. Very cleverly written, very well performed - I thought it was up there with the best of Series 8.
