Pose is set in the world of 1987 and "looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the rise of the luxury universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world."
The main character was more focused on her aesthetic more than anything else--the wigs, the broken nail, the dress. I found her to be annoying. Yes, I realize she changed outfits because her man's parents didn't know about her being transgendered, but her pre-occupation with her looks seems to be par-for-the-course with her. I find this to be the case with many male-to-female transgens...very shallow. Hence, my rating.
