Black Country Communion — the supergroup made up of acclaimed musicians Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian — have announced their fifth studio album, aptly titled V. Ahead of its June 14th release, the band has released the lead single, “Stay Free.”
The upcoming LP marks Black Country Communion’s first album in seven years, following 2017’s Bcciv. It was produced by Kevin Shirley, who has helmed all five of the the band’s albums.
Shirley stated, “For a band that started out as a collection of the best practitioners of their instruments, they very quickly found a unique sound. This time around, it has more purpose, the riffs are tougher, and there are hooks! Yes, hooks! It’s the most cohesive record, full of soul and grit, and I think this is the one that’s going to be the benchmark for Black Country Communion.”
Hughes added, “In my opinion,...

Scott Stapp has announced his fourth solo album, Higher Power, arriving March 15th via Napalm Records.
The Creed singer also shared the new single “What I Deserve,” which follows up the previously released title track. The new song features guitarist Yiannis Papadopoulos, and touts emotional high and lows, drifting from brooding balladry to heavy, big-chord choruses. The tune comes with a shred solo from Papadopoulos, along with lyrics that ponder the intricacies of a relationship.
“We all want back what we give,” Stapp commented in a press release. “‘What I Deserve’ is about two people understanding who they are individually and coming to a place where they can express exactly what they each want, need, and deserve. The duality in the song is that both sides are expressing the same thing and coming to an understanding of the faults of the other.”
He added, “This song pleads both guilty and...

The low-budget horror movie star who terrorized investors with a $650 million Ponzi scheme based on fake deals with HBO and Netflix was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday.
Zachary Horwitz, 35, received the punishment in a federal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles after pleading guilty in the case last October. The judge also ordered him to pay $230 million in restitution.

Believe it or not, words fail me at times. Not often, but trying to articulate the level of admiration I have for the team that created Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 Episode 10 falls in that frustratingly "lightning-bug-instead-of-lightning" way.
Finale episodes -- whether season-enders or midseason -- are held to a higher standard than a typical episode.
The Star Trek: Prodigy team -- all of whom are credited on-screen and have been throughout social media with having a hand in the actualization of "A Moral Star" -- does everything perfectly. And that's about as rare as a childless tribble.
When TV Fanatic spoke with creators Dan and Kevin Hageman and director Ben Hibon, we asked them about the Tower of Babel-like plot device used to enslave and isolate the Unwanted of Tars Lamora.
Describing the Diviner's realm as one as far from the Starfleet and Federation ideal of understanding diverse species as possible,...

Female directors and actors reigned supreme at tonight’s San Sebastian Film Festival awards ceremony, with the Romanian actor-turned-director Alina Grigore taking the Golden Shell for Best Film for her intimate debut feature “Blue Moon.” The film, a raw realist study of a young woman attempting to free herself from an abusive rural household, was an unexpected winner, besting a number of higher-profile auteur films in the festival’s main competition. Yet a full spectrum was covered: At the opposite end of the celebrity scale, Jessica Chastain was one of two Best Leading Performance winners for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
This was the second year in a row that a first-time female filmmaker took the festival’s top prize. Last year, Georgian writer-director Dea Kulumbegashvili swept the board for her debut “Beginning,” which won the Golden Shell in addition to Best Director, Actress and Screenplay. Kulumbegashvili returned to the...

Andrew W.K. has dropped a new song, “Stay True to Your Heart,” which will appear on his new album, God Is Partying, out September 10th via Napalm Records.
“Stay True to Your Heart” boasts a brooding core, with W.K. letting his gravely voice sail over pulsing synths and steady drums. But the song’s subdued verses properly explode into a mighty chorus as W.K. taps into his falsetto against a wall of guitars.

The Devil Below is visual effects expert Bradley Parker’s second film as a director, his first was Chernobyl Diaries back in 2012. This time he takes us to Shookum Hills, the film’s original title, an abandoned town in Appalachia where inhabitants vanished and the coal mines have been burning for decades. Is it a hill country Silent Hill, or something more sinister?

Prince Harry is on a roll! After landing the role of chief impact officer at San Francisco-based wellness startup BetterUp earlier this week, the Duke of Sussex just secured his second "job." On Wednesday, CNN announced that Harry will be serving as one of the 15 commissioners of The Aspen Institute. The not-for-profit initiative will consist of a six-month study on the state of misinformation and disinformation in America. Katie Couric serves as a commission cochair, along with cybersecurity expert Chris Krebs and Color of Change's President Rashad Robinson.
"As I've said, the experience of today's digital world has us inundated with an avalanche of misinformation, affecting our ability as individuals as well as societies to think clearly and truly understand the world we live in," Harry said in a statement. "It's my belief that this is a humanitarian issue, and as such, it demands a multi-stakeholder response from advocacy voices,...

Director Eduardo Rodriguez has been, at least for me, something of a underrated talent. His first Hollywood movie, Stash House, was an effective action thriller and his follow-up, El Gringo, was a superb film and star-making vehicle for action star Scott Adkins. And – at least for me – his Fright Night sequel-c0me-remake was a decent entry in the franchise and one that I enjoyed more than the Colin Farrell iteration. So when I discovered his latest feature film, You’re Not Alone, was due out this week – after apparently being filmed in 2016 under the title Unwanted – I knew I had to check it out… And I’m glad I did.

Vital Pictures, an upstart independent production company from Chris Lemos and Luis Guerrero, will produce and distribute the World War I drama “The War Below” from director J.P. Watts, TheWrap can share exclusively.
“The War Below” stars “Peaky Blinders” and “The Innocents” actor Sam Hazeldine alongside Tom Goodman-Hill, Kris Hitchen, Douglas Reith and Sam Clemmett.
The film will be produced and distributed by Vital Pictures in the U.S., a source told TheWrap, making it the company’s third project after the horror-thrillers “Beneath Us” and “You’re Not Alone.”
“The War Below” is based on true events and centers on a group of British miners recruited during WWI to tunnel underneath no man’s land and set bombs from below the German front, all in the hopes of breaking the deadly stalemate of the Battle of Messines.
Watts, known for the short film “The Lost Emperor,” is making his feature-length directorial debut on the film.

Semisonic released a new video for “You’re Not Alone,” the title track of their reunion EP, out September 18th on Pleasuresonic Recordings/Megaforce Records.
Directed by Phil Harder, the clip opens with frontman Dan Wilson standing on a beach as a child roams through the woods — climbing up a tree, walking on railway tracks, and crossing a bridge. Later, he inserts a message in a bottle and drops it into a river. “The water’s warm,” Wilson sings. “And no one ever told you life was long.”

Comparisons between Led Zeppelin and Semisonic — the alt-pop band best known for the rousing 1998 hit “Closing Time” — are few and far between. But former Semisonic singer, guitarist and songwriter Dan Wilson thinks there’s at least one: It’s not easy to just dash off a good Semisonic song — or a good Zep track. You have to be in the right headspace.
“[I would try to write a Semisonic song and it] would either not be great, or be good but not sound like the band,” Wilson says. “I just didn’t have a handle on how to sound like...
