Composer Alan Howarth and sound effects designer David Lewis Yewdall are interviewed for this fourteen-minute featurette that can be found on the new Blu-ray release of John Carpenter's THE THING. Howarth starts things off by discussing how Carpenter wasn't fully satisfied with Ennio Morricone's original script so he played him some of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, which resulted in a new score being used. Yewdall discusses how Carpenter hired him for this as well as HALLOWEEN II and then he gets into discussing the various sound effects that were used in the film. Fans of the film are going to be treated with some very good stories and this is especially true coming from Yewdall. He goes into some great detail about the various sound effects in the film and how he came up with them. Howarth, who has been a part of many featurettes, does his typical good job explaining how the score was done.
