Storyline

Starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin, Adrift is based on the inspiring true story of two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them first to love, and then to the adventure of a lifetime. As the two avid sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) couldn't anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved. Adrift is the unforgettable story about the resilience of the human spirit and the transcendent power of love. Written by STXfilms

Goofs

During a scene when Tami and Richard are watching a sunset, Tami references Bob Ross when poking fun at Richard. However given her time traveling overseas from 78-83 this couldn't have been a pop reference she knew. See Bob Ross's Joy of Painting was in production from 1983-1994, Season 1 ran from Jan 11th - Mar 29th 1983 and Season 2 ran from Aug 31st - Nov 23 1983. The first season of The Joy of Painting aired on many PBS stations across the east coast, but the audience was small. It ended up moving to a new home on public television. This time, at WIPB in Muncie, Indiana. Their initial trip would take them back to her home in San Diego and be home by October. Given these factors it's highly unlikely anyone on that side of the world would have heard of a new (low viewership) show that was Broadcast by non-commercial public television stations. See more »

A little too slow paced and too long but still a great film to see
24 August 2018 | by TheTopDawgSee all my reviews

I think this was Shailene Woodley's best performance to date. This films photography and cinematography was outstanding and the directing was great. I did however feel that it was a little too slow paced and too long, but still a great film to see. A few reviewers didn't like the flash-backs, and I'm not a fan of those either, but it worked very well in this film. This was actually better than I expected. I recommend it and it's a well deserved 8/10 from me.
