The Translators

Les Traducteurs is a French mystery-thriller that directed Regis Roinsard in 2019. His main source of inspiration was Dan Brown's Inferno (2013) in which a group of translators, from Milan and London, are entasked with the leakage prevention and simultaneous publication of the bestseller worldwide.

Similarly, the Translators is a movie about intellectuals who are chosen to finish translation of the long awaited, final book of international bestselling trilogy. 9 of the best polyglots are hired by a publisher of the company with tradition and renown. The Translators are then hosted in a motel with all inclusive standard and luxury but are forbbiden to use internet while working on the project. Regardless of the security measures that are taken, the last part of the manuscript leaks and turns out to be a hacker who wants to blackmail the company for big sums of money. The thought-out publisher sees the trap and retaliates to the translators by confiment, turning the villa from such a wonderful place to be into a cloistered jail, cut off from the outer world and daylight. Does this solve the puzzle or twists hoax even more? Enjoy finding out as this movie certainly never stops to surprise, with all the thrilling and suspenseful tone through its entirety.

Considering the circumstance that Dedalus, the in-movie bestseller, had enormous and worldwide popularity, each of the translators was chosen from a different country so the book could be represented all over the globe, in line with its prevalence. Acting worthily with the storyline, Roinsard did something, that in my opinion, greatly added to the movie, to its variety and consistency. He picked actors from various countries to put it in accord with variety of countries that the translators represent in the movie. Thus we can hear many different languages throughout the act - English, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Danish.. - spoken beautifully by their natives.

I will mention a few of the actors that especially left me astonished. Lambert Wilson, a French who played the tricky publisher Eric Angstorm; Olga Kurylenko, an Ukrainian in role of translator from Russia with an accent and Alex Lawther, a translator that never ceased to surprise, from Britain. Each one of these is a great actor and had starred in high-quality movies before - Matrix 2, Quantum of Solace, Imitation game respectively.

Finally, it saddens me this great movie has such poor popularity among the global audience and i hope its day of fame is yet to come.
