Will Ferrell and Adam McKay End Partnership After Holmes and Watson Bombs

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay End Partnership After Holmes and Watson Bombs
Holmes & Watson was an outright bomb that had audiences walking out in the middle of the movie. Sure, it was awful, but who could have predicted that it would end the longtime working relationship between the movie's star Will Ferrell and its producer Adam McKay?

Having first met in 1995 on the set of Saturday Night Live, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay have enjoyed a long partnership on quite a few movies and TV shows, some of them deemed outright classics. So Holmes and Watson is a sour note to end the legacy on. But the pair have mutually decided to disband their production company Gary Sanchez and its female-centric offshoot Gloria Sanchez.

The dubious duo will now branch out and go their own separate ways, but they remain close friends and there are no hard feelings. Gary Sanchez has enjoyed a 13 year history that includes such comedy hits as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,

No word on whether this decision came immediately after McKay saw Holmes & Watson, or after Ferrell watched Vice. The duo released a joint statement: “The last 13 years could not have been more enjoyable and satisfying for the two of us at Sanchez Productions. We give massive thanks to our incredible staff and executives and all …

The duo announced the break-up on Saturday and insisted that it’s amicable. Projects produced under their Gary Sanchez banner include “Vice,” “Step Brothers,” “Talladega Nights” and the Anchorman and Daddy’s Home movies. In 2014, Jessica Elbaum founded the Gloria Sanchez production company as a sister label of Gary Sanchez Productions with a focus on female voices in comedy.

“The last 13 years could not have been more enjoyable and satisfying for the two of us at Sanchez Productions,” Ferrell and McKay said in a joint statement. “We give massive thanks to our incredible staff and executives and all the writers, directors and actors we worked with through the years. The two of us will always work together creatively and always be friends. And we recognize we are lucky as hell to end this venture as such.

Longtime friends and producing partners Will Ferrell and Adam McKay have decided to go their separate ways professionally, TheWrap has learned.

Ferrell and McKay — who first met when they were both hired on “Saturday Night Live” in 1995 and are the creative minds behind films like “Anchorman,” “Talladega Nights,” and “Step Brothers” — are committed to working together on the lengthy slate of projects in development under their company, Gary Sanchez Productions, which was created 13 years ago with Chris Henchy, an individual with knowledge of the situation tells TheWrap.

Ferrell and McKay’s Sanchez banner and its female-focused offshoot, Gloria Sanchez Productions, will continue with all existing projects through completion, with the producers attached to those films and TV series remaining in place, the individual says.

Is there an ‘American Hustle’ curse at the Oscars?
Back in late 2013, David O. Russell’s “American Hustle” premiered to favorable reviews and enthusiastic audience reaction. It was immediately hailed as a serious Oscar contender, challenging frontrunners “12 Years a Slave” and “Gravity.”

It was the most honored film of the evening.

When the Oscar nominations were announced, “Hustle” bustled its way to an impressive ten nods, tying it with “Gravity.” “Hustle” notably received bids in all four acting categories, with Christian Bale (Best Actor) and Bradley Cooper (Best Supporting Actor) joining Adams and Lawrence. Why Social Impact Entertainment Is Ready for the Spotlight in Hollywood (Guest Blog)
Last month’s Oscars represented a breakthrough — not only for the diversity of winners, but for a larger idea that has been gaining momentum in recent years: that mass entertainment and deeper social messages are not mutually exclusive, but rather an opportunity for Hollywood to do well and do good at the same time.

The extraordinary range of winning films, which addressed themes of racism to social class to sexual identity, put a spotlight on the growing desire of large audiences to grapple with — and in many cases influence — some of the world’s most thorny issues. Winners and nominees like “Green Book,” “Roma,” “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “The Wife,” “BlackKklansman,” “Vice” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” show us that in a world of “fake news” and “alternative facts,” people are hungering for more reality.

“The State of Social Impact Entertainment” (Sie), released on March 5, is a landmark
