The Rolling Stones song 'Play with Fire' was first released as the B-side of the single 'The Last Time' on 26 February 1965 and credits songwriting music/lyrics to Nanker-Phelge. James Delos is seen playing a record player with the 12-inch vinyl disc. That type of technology began phasing out in the mid-1980s after Compact Discs (CDs) were invented, although aficionados continued to believe vinyl records offered higher-quality recordings, and in the 2010s the format began to experience a resurgence in popularity.

The chamber where James Delos's clone is housed has a goldfish in a bowl. This could be a reference to his memory powers, which are as fickle as a goldfish's (though it was proved to be a myth and untrue), and also to his own situation, living in a relatively small circular space observed from the outside.
