Once upon a time, Josh and Kate were in love. Together, they created a bestselling book. But they soon found themselves apart, with Kate focusing on her true crime novels and Josh on his children's books. Some time later, these exes are reluctantly forced back together by their mutual publisher for a sequel. As they try to get their groove back and navigate their collaboration, will they find love again? Or is this Happily Never After?
The good news is that there is a lot going on in this story. But that's also the bad news. I think it's a mistake, especially in a TV movie where screen time is limited, to dilute the main romance. I want to see the relationship develop. I want to know the two people more, not all the people less. This story has a lot of activity but not much about the people behind the activity and the emotions.
Having said that, it's not surprising that Danielle Savre and Rick Cosnett didn't have much chemistry. Likewise for the other two couples.
The climax is kind of sweet. But it didn't follow on top of any compelling tension. Again the tension was diluted as each couple had issues but nothing that left me anxious about how it would turn out.
