In a red carpet interview, Hemsworth said he approached the project with a sense of unease, citing Berry’s long-standing career and on-screen presence. “I’ve admired Halle’s work for many, many years,” Hemsworth said. “I was obviously very intimidated to sit opposite her within a scene and try and, you know, not just be in awe of what she was doing.”

Now, it seemed like The Man Who Loved UFOs was tailor-made for me. It had a peculiar subject matter. The filmmaking looked good.

Prince Charming is an archetypical character who is present in many fairy tales, but in terms of Disney princess movies he is most often linked to 1950's Cinderella. While their original animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs featured an unnamed prince who had similar characteristics, Cinderella was the first canonical Disney princess title to use the name Prince Charming, with subsequent princes usually receiving first names including Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid and Prince Phillip in Sleeping Beauty.

It’s been well over a year since we last heard of Crime 101, a Heat-style crime thriller about ‘high level jewel thefts that are taking place up and down the Pacific Coast.’ It was in the midst of last year’s Hollywood strikes when news of the film announced and as such, in the raft of rescedulings that have since taken place, there’ s been something of a reshuffle.

Amazon MGM Studios is adapting Don Winslow’s novella Crime 101. Mark Ruffalo is reportedly in talks to play the lead role. He is set to co-star with Chris Hemsworth and negotiate to star and produce alongside Ben Grayson, his producing partner.

The film will be directed by Bart Layton, who collaborated with Peter Straughan to develop the screenplay. Layton is famously known for his work as a director and writer of the 2018 heist movie American Animals, which starred Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, and Ann Dowd. Pedro Pascal was supposed to star in the film alongside Hemsworth last year, but although he was on board, things did not move forward.

Ruffalo is in talks to join Hemsworth in Amazon MGM Studios’ feature version of Crime 101, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Bart Layton — who wrote the script with contributions from Peter Straughan — is set to direct the movie that is based on author Winslow’s novella of the same name.

Hemsworth is in talks to star and produce alongside partner Ben Grayson for the film that is aiming for theatrical release next year.

The Sundance Institute has released the lineup for the 11th edition of Sundance Film Festival: London.

The Festival, which will run from June 6-9, will open with the UK premiere of writer and director Rich Peppiatt’s boisterous Irish-language film Kneecap and close with the UK premiere of Dìdi (弟弟) written and directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sean Wang.

Other titles in the program include the Zellner brothers’ Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough-starrer Sasquatch Sunset, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s adaptation of Jeff Hobbs’ bestselling biography Rob Peace, and Shuchi Talati’s Girls Will Be Girls, which won the 2024 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award. The documentaries include Skywalkers: A Love Story by multi-Emmy award-winning filmmaker Jeff Zimbalist and Never Look Away by Lucy Lawless in her directorial debut.

There will also be a short film program dedicated to films either produced in the UK or made by filmmakers based in the UK.

A powerfully realized true story or docudrama can be exhilarating at the best of times and few come as gut-wrenching as 2018's absurdly gripping American Animals. Somehow, the flick is still underrated to this day, yet remains as strong as they come when testifying to the power of the aforementioned filmmaking mode. Touching the Void, for example, from the early 2000s, is a true-to-life survival tale about two daring climbers whose Everest expedition hit a snag when one of them fell into a gaping crevasse during the descent. Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” is the third collaboration from the team behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Trio Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg produced the nine-part World War II epic series, which spotlights the men who fought in the 8th Air Force, specifically the men of the 100th Bomb Group. The vivid and vital story finds roots in the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller.

The crew of a typical Eighth Air Force heavy bomber plane included ten men — a pilot and his co-pilot flying the B17, the navigator and the bombardier in the machine’s nose, the flight engineer behind the pilot, the radio operator, two waist gunners, a ball turret gunner and a tail gunner. Not to mention the men who strategized from the bases, the plane engineers and Tuskegee airmen or Royal Airforce pilots who feature in this story.

At an edition of the London Film Festival where themes spilled off the screens and onto the streets, “The Kitchen” was a prescient Closing Night choice. It also has a director set to helm the project with Bart Layton, whose credits include the documentary The Imposter from 2012 and American Animals from 2018. The bidding war for the property may have been narrowed down to Netflix and Amazon, but Deadline is reporting that Amazon currently has the edge in the fight.

Although the actors and directors are attached, there is currently no deal in place, according to sources. Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, both Hemsworth and Pascal were showing interest and, presumably, both had been forbidden to do any official business once the strike had taken place. According to Deadline, Crime 101, a package based on a novella by New York Times Best-selling author Don Winslow (The Border), has Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) set to star in the movie. No deals are yet in place, but both actors reportedly expressed interest in the film before the SAG-AFTRA strike. Bart Layton, who helmed the movie American Animals, is attached to direct Crime 101. Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan from Working Title and Story Factory's Shane Salerno put the production package together. Amazon, sources believe, appears to have the edge at this point.

A Kentucky man is taking Netflix to court for defamation over the streamer distributing a documentary that allegedly falsely implied he was involved in a murder.

In the 2023 true crime documentary The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker, a photo of Taylor Hazlewood is shown alongside a convicted murderer with audio saying “stone-cold killer” and captions stating that “You can never trust anyone.” He alleges that the images were taken without his knowledge from his Instagram “despite having no connection to any aspect of the Film.”

Hazlewood sued Netflix on April 10 in Texas state court, accusing the company of defamation and misappropriation of likeness or right of publicity. He seeks over $1 million and punitive damages.

Exclusive: Pig and Manodrome producer Ben Giladi is formally launching his production banner Liminal Content at this year’s Berlin Film Festival where Manodrome debuted in Competition.

The company will focus on content and filmmakers from international markets with an eye to ushering them into Hollywood.

The UK-based film and TV outfit is working in development, production and financing.

In addition to Manodrome, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Adrien Brody and Odessa Young, Giladi’s producing credits include Michael Sarnoski’s breakout debut Pig, starring Nicholas Cage, and Netflix’s cult true-crime series Shadow of Truth.

The new telling of his story will lean into Billy’s Irish ancestry and complicated childhood.

Born in New York as Henry McCarty, he was orphaned at the age of 15 when his mother died and his stepfather abandoned him. His first arrest for robbery came a year later, and by the time he was 18, he was wanted for murder after an altercation in Arizona. His notoriety escalated, and he was 21 when Sheriff Pat Garrett shot him to death.
