Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry spoke about their experience working together on Crime 101 during their appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where Amazon MGM Studios promoted the upcoming heist thriller.
In a red carpet interview, Hemsworth said he approached the project with a sense of unease, citing Berry’s long-standing career and on-screen presence. “I’ve admired Halle’s work for many, many years,” Hemsworth said. “I was obviously very intimidated to sit opposite her within a scene and try and, you know, not just be in awe of what she was doing.”
He described the filming process as unexpectedly collaborative, noting that Berry helped establish a tone that encouraged creative exchange. “Certain people just bring out not just the best in you, but also sort of a comfort level where it feels like it’s a place to explore and it’s a place to examine different ideas and try different things,...

Biography is undoubtedly one of the most popular genres in existence, because people just love to watch a Wikipedia page come to life in live-action format. But as someone who has flunked his history exams quite a few times, I don’t like a by-the-numbers chronicling of the past. I love biographies that tend to have pizazz, if they have the audacity to be experimental with their storytelling, or if they are centered around a not-so-popular subject matter. Off the top of my head, I can name Schindler’s List, Ford v Ferrari, Elvis (the 2022 one), Rocketman, Jarhead, The Aviator, First Man, Spotlight, Serpico, Spencer, American Animals, Dog Day Afternoon, Tetris, Judas and the Black Messiah, Dolemite Is My Name, and Chopper as some of my favorite biopics. Now, it seemed like The Man Who Loved UFOs was tailor-made for me. It had a peculiar subject matter. The filmmaking looked good.

A Prince Charming movie is in development at Disney with a director and screenwriters attached. Prince Charming is an archetypical character who is present in many fairy tales, but in terms of Disney princess movies he is most often linked to 1950's Cinderella. While their original animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs featured an unnamed prince who had similar characteristics, Cinderella was the first canonical Disney princess title to use the name Prince Charming, with subsequent princes usually receiving first names including Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid and Prince Phillip in Sleeping Beauty.
Per Deadline, Paddington and Wonka director Paul King is now attached to a Prince Charming movie that is in the works at Disney. This project is said to not tie into Cinderella. Plot details are currently unknown about the script, which will be penned by King, Jon Croker, and King's frequent collaborator Simon Farnaby.

From the director of American Animals comes Heat-esque thriller Crime 101. Halle Berry’s just joined the cast, which also includes Chris Hemsworth and Barry Keoghan.
It’s been well over a year since we last heard of Crime 101, a Heat-style crime thriller about ‘high level jewel thefts that are taking place up and down the Pacific Coast.’ It was in the midst of last year’s Hollywood strikes when news of the film announced and as such, in the raft of rescedulings that have since taken place, there’ s been something of a reshuffle.
As it stands, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be getting the Chris Hemsworth/Pedro Pascal face-off that we were originally promised. A raft of reschedulings in the wake of the strike (not least Marvel’s Fantastic Four) has already caused Pascal to drop out of Zach Cregger’s Weapons – and it seems...

Last year, a bidding war was going down between Netflix and Amazon for a lucrative package deal. The two streaming giants were in a fight to acquire the film rights to the novella by Don Winslow called Crime 101. It also has a director set to helm the project with Bart Layton, whose credits include the documentary The Imposter from 2012 and American Animals from 2018. Amazon MGM Studios is adapting Don Winslow’s novella Crime 101. Mark Ruffalo is reportedly in talks to play the lead role. He is set to co-star with Chris Hemsworth and negotiate to star and produce alongside Ben Grayson, his producing partner.
The film will be directed by Bart Layton, who collaborated with Peter Straughan to develop the screenplay. Layton is famously known for his work as a director and writer of the 2018 heist movie American Animals, which starred Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, and Ann Dowd. Pedro Pascal was supposed to star in the film alongside Hemsworth last year, but although he was on board, things did not move forward.

Sundance Film Festival is heading to London again this summer and the programme is full of cinematic goodies. More below.
The days are getting lighter, the sun is shining ever so slightly more now and we’ve packed away our thickest wool jumpers, although we still need some thick socks. That must mean one thing and one thing only.
Sundance Film Festival: London is almost upon us.
Some might say summer is coming too, but we’re mostly excited for Sundance London, which has just revealed their full programme for this year’s festival. The festival brings a fine selection of films which originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, in Park City, Utah. The crème de la crème, so to speak.

A powerfully realized true story or docudrama can be exhilarating at the best of times and few come as gut-wrenching as 2018's absurdly gripping American Animals. Somehow, the flick is still underrated to this day, yet remains as strong as they come when testifying to the power of the aforementioned filmmaking mode. Touching the Void, for example, from the early 2000s, is a true-to-life survival tale about two daring climbers whose Everest expedition hit a snag when one of them fell into a gaping crevasse during the descent. It was much more documentary than re-enacted drama (though the actors shone) – but the impact was heavy. American Animals is, for the most part, a recreation of the events that occurred in 2004 when a quartet of bored college students decided to rob an art exhibit containing priceless books at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.

It is possible that one day an excellent narrative feature in the vein of The Big Short, BlackBerry, Dumb Money or Margin Call will be made about MoviePass, a company built––and destroyed––by several larger-than-life figures. For now, we have Muta’Ali’s documentary MoviePass, MovieCrash, which provides a broad overview of the deal everyone knew was too good to be true: a company that, for about a year, was so obsessed with subscriber growth that they offered customers the chance to see one movie per day for only $9.95 month.
Inspired by a series of Business Insider articles, MoviePass, MovieCrash features interviews with the company’s founders Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watt along with other company––insiders including Mitch Lowe, the man who would ultimately take Spikes’ position. In a bit of good luck, Muta’Ali gets the interview with Lowe just weeks before he’s indicted on securities fraud alongside Ted Farnsworth,...

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, the Dceu era officially wraps up, ushering in a new phase led by James Gunn and his rebranded Dcu cinematic universe. However, not all DC character projects will align with this new universe. Matt Reeves’ dark and gritty Batman-centric stories will exist as standalone “Elseworlds” tales, a decision consistent with Pattinson’s Batman not being part of the Dceu. Pattinson leads as Bruce Wayne, joined by Kravitz as Catwoman, Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Farrell as the Penguin.
While most roles were confirmed earlier, Keoghan’s portrayal of the Joker remains uncertain, despite Reeves confirming his role in the first movie post-release. Though Collider reported Keoghan’s return a year ago, official studio confirmation is still pending. Vanity Fair’s inquiry received no explicit denial from Keoghan, leading fans to speculate on the Joker’s potential minor role in the sequel,...

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu is officially finished and the fans can look forward to a new era under the leadership of James Gunn and his new cinematic universe rebranded as Dcu.
But not all exciting projects based on DC characters will be part of the new cinematic universe. Notably, projects helmed by Matt Reeves that revolve around dark and gritty Batman’s world will be a part of the “Elseworlds” stories; this was a personal choice made by Matt Reeves, which means that practically nothing changed in that aspect since Pattison’s Batman wasn’t a part of the Dceu either.
Robert Pattinson will be portraying Bruce Wayne. Zoë Kravitz will reprise the role of Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, while Andy Serkis will return to take on the character of Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler and confidant. Colin Farrell will be returning as the Penguin,...

Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” is the third collaboration from the team behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Trio Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg produced the nine-part World War II epic series, which spotlights the men who fought in the 8th Air Force, specifically the men of the 100th Bomb Group. The vivid and vital story finds roots in the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller.
The crew of a typical Eighth Air Force heavy bomber plane included ten men — a pilot and his co-pilot flying the B17, the navigator and the bombardier in the machine’s nose, the flight engineer behind the pilot, the radio operator, two waist gunners, a ball turret gunner and a tail gunner. Not to mention the men who strategized from the bases, the plane engineers and Tuskegee airmen or Royal Airforce pilots who feature in this story.

"The Woman in the Wall" blends psychological thrills with real history, exploring the macabre secrets of Ireland's Magdalene Laundries. The impressive cast of the series skillfully bring complex and damaged characters to life, including Ruth Wilson as the troubled protagonist Lorna Brady. The show delves into the trauma endured by the characters and their quest for justice, making it more than just a typical detective story.
Blending psychological thrills with real history, The Woman in the Wall is a critically acclaimed mystery drama that relies on the strength of its impressive cast and characters. Created by Joe Murtagh, who wrote both Calm With Horses and American Animals, the series has captivated audiences with its macabre plot and pervasive paranoia. Blending these themes in such a way as to avoid slipping into melodrama requires a cast who both understand their roles and are capable of exploring incredibly complex emotions on screen.

Saltburn pushes the boundaries with its subversive and graphic content Barry Keoghan's performance as the complex character Oliver demonstrates his ability to bring emotional depth to creepy and weird roles. The film showcases Keoghan's skill in maintaining a believably strange character while being the main focus, solidifying his status as one of the industry's most exciting actors.
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Saltburn and discussion of graphic contentSaltburn is easily one of 2023's most provocative releases, thanks largely to its decision to take one of the decade's best acting trends to its natural conclusion. Emerald Fennel's scandalous satire sees Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi star as friends from wildly different backgrounds who find each other at university. As Elordi's aristocratic Felix takes Keoghan's dowdy Oliver under his wing and invites him to stay at his palatial family estate, the two worlds collide with dramatic results. Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 London Film Festival. Netflix releases the film on its streaming platform on Friday, January 19.
At an edition of the London Film Festival where themes spilled off the screens and onto the streets, “The Kitchen” was a prescient Closing Night choice. The directorial debut for both Daniel Kaluuya and architect-turned-filmmaker Kibwe Tavares screened to press on Sunday morning, meters away from Piccadilly Circus where, hours previously, the famous Eros statue was draped in Palestine flags during a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with people in danger of being wiped off the face of the earth.
The threat of an already dispossessed community losing their homes and lives undergirds the near-future North London-set dystopia of “The Kitchen.” If the relationship drama at its core doesn’t fully connect with the elegant brutalism of its visual language, there is, nevertheless, a lot to admire in both aspects.

Netflix and Amazon are currently competing for a lucrative package deal. The two streaming giants are in a bidding war over a novella by Don Winslow called Crime 101. The package includes two attached stars — Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal. It also has a director set to helm the project with Bart Layton, whose credits include the documentary The Imposter from 2012 and American Animals from 2018. The bidding war for the property may have been narrowed down to Netflix and Amazon, but Deadline is reporting that Amazon currently has the edge in the fight.
Although the actors and directors are attached, there is currently no deal in place, according to sources. Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, both Hemsworth and Pascal were showing interest and, presumably, both had been forbidden to do any official business once the strike had taken place. At this point, it is reportedly more of a rights deal...

A Kentucky man is taking Netflix to court for defamation over the streamer distributing a documentary that allegedly falsely implied he was involved in a murder.
In the 2023 true crime documentary The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker, a photo of Taylor Hazlewood is shown alongside a convicted murderer with audio saying “stone-cold killer” and captions stating that “You can never trust anyone.” He alleges that the images were taken without his knowledge from his Instagram “despite having no connection to any aspect of the Film.”
