Trivia

Had the highest-grossing opening weekend of any media in entertainment history, with sales of $725m from Friday to Sunday. However this is still far behind GTA V's opening 3-day sales of $1billion, which remains the highest grossing launch overall - but that game was released on a Tuesday. See more »

More than meets the hype thus far...
26 October 2018 | by StonedCrowSee all my reviews

So, have spent a few of hours with this on release day and it really is as wonderful as expected. The visuals are just stunning, and the world is as immersive and detailed as reviews have led you to believe.

Yes, it feels like a Rockstar game, but it is definitely not GTA on horses; the early going really gets you attuned to the physics with some simple hunting and shoot-out style missions before a train robbery blag opens the game up proper and leads you by the hand into a lovingly created and dynamic open world.

If you liked GTA and Projekt Red's Witcher 3, then this is the perfect game for you, as it certainly evokes some of the feel that made the landscape in the Witcher so very special. It appears a huge improvement on the first Red Dead also, which itself was a fabulous game.

Already it is the small touches that marvel and amuse, such as conversational snippets overheard, or the realistic bonding with your horse, and it seems clear this is a world to lose yourself in rather than a gung-ho all-out action shooter, although the shoot-outs are also so very, very well done and the familiar features like Dead Eye, return.

Being only a few hours in, it would be too early to say RDR2 is the best game I have ever played, although it is certainly cinematic in scope and given the pedigree of the developer - coupled with the look and feel thus far - I'm pretty confident it will soon take the top spot.

It's effusive praise for what looks to be an absolutely awesome video game experience. I simply cannot wait to delve further into this game.

You know you need to buy it...
