Plot Summary

Four couples from five continents experience the very same complications with the all present phones: a seasoned film star in Hollywood/USA and her cyber date in Zurich/Switzerland; two teenagers in the countryside of Thailand, two inmates in South-Africa, and an ex-astronaut with a scientist in Sidney/Australia - phone (ab-)use is as demographically and culturally spread out. 'PhonY'-life seems to be at its happiest when all devices worldwide are loaded by electricity - thus become unusable. Life on Earth breaks down. The consequences are dramatic. Everybody has to rethink their activities. Human-life is at a dying breed - if it weren't the Australian scientist finding the solution in her lover's space-past. Is she able to bring the world back to 'PhonY'-life? Written by Daniela Kastelan

Did You Know?

Trivia The lead role of 'PhonY', the bedridden Ex-Astronaut Richard Carlyle was cast with Burt Reynolds in Summer 2017. Due to filming of the shooting of the winter segments of Canada and Switzerland in January/February 2018, and the Asian segments in Thailand in March/April 2018, the remaining segments to be shot in Hollywood were postponed until Reynolds deemed available. This was, until after the shoot of Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' early October 2018. Thus October 15 was set to film, with a pre-production meeting was to take place Mid-/End-September with producer/writer/director of Phony, Roger Steinmann. Due the untimely death of Burt Reynolds on September 6, the shooting of the second portion of PhonY is postponed due to the re-casting of Reynolds role. See more »
