Aladdin, the clever hero of Agrabah, continues his adventures with the help of his fiancee Princess Jasmine, his pet monkey Abu, Magic Carpet, Iago the greedy parrot, and of course his best friend the semi-cosmic Genie.
The second live action adaptation of a Disney animated feature film where all characters that had American accents in the original film retain them rather than be changed to British accents, following The Jungle Book (2016). This does not include Christopher Robin (2018) where only Pooh Bear, Tigger and Eeyore retained their American accents, same said for Dumbo (2019) where all the characters who have spoken dialogue did not appear in the original film and since none of the animal characters speak due to the film's change of perspective. When we first meet Jasmine's servant Dalia, the out of focus distant mountains and sea beyond the balcony are slowly panning right to left, however, the foreground is a still shot and there is no scanning or "camera" movement. See more »
Initial credits have the cast performing a dance to snippet of "Friend like Me." This is also a callback to the Broadway/live action performance of Aladdin. In which, at the end of the show, the cast come out and then perform an encore of "Friend like Me." Shortly after Robin Williams passed away, the current cast dedicated the encore to Williams/asked the audience to participate. See more »
Dare I said it?
This live action is better than the animated original!!
I say this as a true Disney and Aladdin fan so don't take my words lightly, it just gave me more feeling and understanding of the characters more so than the animated did.
From production to the set then to the musical numbers, Guy Ritchie really captures the whole Aladdin theme.
Will Smith really adds his own flavour to the genie, Naomi Scott is near perfect as jasmine and Mena Massoud plays a like for like version of Aladdin himself.
For me this is the best live action Disney film they have remade so far.
I give this a 9/10
