Based on a true story, "In Plain Sight" is a three-part miniseries about Lanarkshire Detective William Muncie and his quest to bring to justice notorious serial killer and rapist Peter Manuel, dubbed the "Beast of Birkenshaw" for his crime spree.

Over a period of two years, eight people, including children, have been brutally murdered in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Detective Inspector William Muncie is in charge of the investigations and knows who did it - Peter Manuel, a man who only recently was released from prison after serving a nine-year sentence for sexual assault. However, he doesn't have enough evidence to convict Manuel, especially as his father always provides an alibi, and Manuel always seems one step ahead.—grantss
