Carolina Segrera, 'The Cuban Nightingale' (1929)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

Opera singer Carolina Segrera belts out a couple tunes in this early Vitaphone short that has her being backed by don Alberto and His Argentines. If you're a fan of these old Vitaphone shorts then you'll probably enjoy this one. What I enjoy most about these films is that quite often the subjects weren't in very many (if any) movies so sometimes what you're watching is the one way to see them. These shorts covered a variety of acts ranging from comedians to musicians and to opera stars. I can see a call going out to vaudeville that companies were needing them to perform their acts, on camera, and often doing it in one take. I must admit that I wasn't that much of a fan of Segrera's voice but it was still nice seeing her as well as Alberto and His Argentines who were actually quite good.
