A film about the future of human reproduction as it happens right before our eyes. This investigation takes us around the world to patients and researchers, to egg donors and surrogate mothers, to laboratories and clinics. The hopes and wishes of future parents mesh with research on how to optimize the human genome in the face of an ever accelerating rate of progress. How far do we want to go?
I applaud the work of Geyrhalter Films for bringing this provocative and timely piece into existence. They found people from all angles who have been involved in surrogacy and reproductive technologies and just let them speak for themselves. There is no patronizing interjection of the filmmakers' pre-suppositions or opinions. They turned the camera on and allowed people to talk about what they thought was important or what they were excited about. But its not just talking heads, they got incredible access to fertility clinics and were even present for the cesarean section of a Mexican surrogate and the first few moments of a child's life who was born via surrogacy. And the results are haunting. These are images I will never forget in my life.
I am profoundly concerned for those that think these practices are acceptable.
