Only on the roof of his parents' house, above the alleys of a slum in Adana, with his beloved pigeons, can Yusuf find peace, and himself. Finding a foothold in the dystopian world outside is more difficult.
Confronting the harsh realities of life from the rooftop of his house somewhere in a suburb of Adana, the taciturn young man, Yusuf, spends his time passionately breeding pigeons. Indeed, the birds, which has inherited from his father, are Yusuf's solace, and, in particular, one female pigeon, Maverdi, is his favourite. However, this unusual bond doesn't sit well with his brother, who, more and more, pressurises Yusuf to find a job and support the family. Then, sensitive Yusuf sees beautiful Gülfem and falls head over heels in love with her. Can Yusuf keep on living in his secure, isolated world?Written by
Almost a parable. About ages and refuge and sense of life and fall of worlds. About the way to define yourself. And the clash between long term childhood , with its innocence , and the real life. A beautiful- sad film. Admirable work of Kemal Alper as Yusuf, great storytelling and the atmosphere. A film about fundamental choices and the end of a time.
