Mohanlal mass movie
31 March 2019 | by cinishSee all my reviews

It is a very good movie for a directorial debut, but did not match the expectation set by the propaganda.

Mohanlal has been used really well. If you see him on the screen, you can be sure, there is a strike coming, and it is usually delivered very well.

Tovino and Vivek Oberoi stood out pretty well with their performances. Sai Kumar plays a role that he has played in many other movies and he has played it well as well.

Manju Warrier is yet to find the actor in her. In general, casting and acting has been good.

Fight sequences have been stylish and fulfilling in general, especially the ones with Mohanlal. Prithviraj has himself played some fight sequences, which have not been as appealing as Lal's action sequences.

The trailer narrative that had felt very offf-beat in the trailer blends in a little better in the movie. The script has an integrity to it, but nothing novel as such about the script. There are portions that did not gel well as well. Serial actress segments looked to have been flicked from "sacred games".

Overall, it is a good watch, but not a must watch. Can be watched multiple times by a Mohanlal fanboy. Again, that was the highlight of the movie - how Mohanlal's mass appeal has been used to the right extent, without overdoing it. From that perspective, Lucifer might have outdone Petta, as Petta might have had a little too much of Rajni, where as in Lucifer, Lal is used as a well reserved powerful weapon.

From a directorial standpoint, Prithvi has definitely done a very good job. Does not feel like a newcomer movie. Crowd shots, and the general energy of the movie has been maintained very well, sometimes feels like a Joshy movie. He has also been able to get actors to perform well. Prithvi has a bad need for being centrestage, and in any movie he is in, he just needs to be hero, the center point. In Lucifer, he could not keep himself out of the screen, and took a role as if to specifically put himself below Lal. Antony Perumbavoor also does a quick cameo. Prithviraj has definitely proven himself again as someone who wins at what he sets out on.
