Have You Talked to the Others?: An Interview with Paul Hirsch (2016)
*** (out of 4)
Editor Paul Hirsch is the focus on this ten-minute interview where he talks as a person a studio would bring in whenever a film is in trouble. The film here is Brian De Palma's RAISING CAIN and Hirsch talks about what he witnessed when he first went into the editing room and various decisions that were made to get the final product on the screen. He talks about how the audience will lose touch with a picture if they get confused by it or feel there's not going to be any sort of explanation of the events going on. He talks about working with De Palma and the various issues that they faced with this film and how they worked through it. This is a really good featurette that gives you a very good idea of what it's like when the studio fears they've got a problem on their hands and what is needed to get it fixed. There are some nice stories here and that makes this very much worth watching.
