James Caan's The Gambler (1972) can arguably be considered the pinnacle of sports gambling movies. 10 Yards the Hard Way takes a different angle choosing the guilt ridden sports reporter as the protagonist who's been caught in the middle of a fix gone wrong. Way more engaging than Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey's more recent Two for the Money which was a down and out stinker and received a green splat on Rotten Tomatoes. Clearly this was made with a low/no budget and a yet to be discovered cast but they made the best of it and it gave the film a certain sort of realism. My favorite scene was when Brett and Cynthia make dinner together. It was really cute and you could feel the chemistry building between them. Definitely worth watching for that alone.
