In June 2008, Jodi Arias carried out a cold, callous, planned execution of her former lover Travis Alexander. Less than a year later, Marissa DeVault carried out a similar killing of her husband, but compounded the crime by trying to blame it on a man who had been mentally impaired by a head injury.
The trials of both women were for capital murder, both were held at Maricopa Superior Court, and both were subject to delay, Devault's trial being held later.
This documentary covers everything about the crime from the planning to its commission to the trial, and if Arias is a piece of work, DeVault earns herself a slightly hotter spot in Hell, partly because of the aforementioned attempt to blame the crime on a totally innocent man, and partly because she went to even greater lengths to kill her husband, because she had two lovers, and because at the end of the day there was a financial motive. Oh yeah, and because she played not only the battered woman card but the (marital) rape card.
On balance, it is difficult to see why the admittedly psychopathic and narcissistic Arias attracted more publicity, but there was no retrial for not-so-sweet Marissa, only a life behind bars with no chance of parole.
