In 2019, "A Song of Ice and Fire" author George R.R. Martin confirmed once again that he thought the ending of the show would not be "that different" than the ending he has planned for the two books yet to come, since he and show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had lengthy conversations over the years about which direction the story was headed. However, George's book still contains many characters and details that do not appear on the show at all, so according to him there will be some differences in the fates of more minor characters and less central plot points, claiming that the show would need to have at least 5 more season to be 100% faithful to the books. As a result, David and Dan agreed with George that they were not going to tell the audience which parts of the endgame would be their original material for the show and which would be directly taken from the books, even though throughout the years they also said many times the major plot points would be very similar. Its sad that one of the best TV shows of all time concluded the way it did. The ending wasn't bad, but the 7 season buildup only to have this mad dash to the end is awful. Nothing was explained, nothing was written well, terrible pacing! Absolutely disrespectful to fans! This last season makes it really hard to recommend the show to new viewers or repeat viewings. If the writers didn't care why should we?
