Plot Summary

Beyond his current unemployment and that he doesn't seem to be working very hard to find a job, Lauren Frank, the assistant to the manager of Module 45, a shared work space, and urban planner Tom Anderson outwardly have the perfect "vanilla" relationship, now going on five years and at the stage of cohabitation. While Tom does have that view, Lauren, below the surface, is feeling uncertain about her life including with Tom. Two things shake up that life for Lauren. First, her parents, Carol and Matt Frank, announce, to Lauren out of the blue, that they are getting divorced, but will still live together, basically turning their relationship from one of life partners to platonic roommates. And second, she gets a new boss in the form of David Paolini, a one time fling before she met Tom. The only reason that there was not a future for her and David five years ago is because he was married at the time, and perhaps because of their age difference, he twenty years her senior. David makes it quite clear to her that he wants to continue on where they had left off five years ago. With these stressors in her life, Lauren overcompensates by trying to make her life with Tom even more vanilla perfect, which may only compound the emotional problem for her instead.
