- Sarah tests a new parenting style and is shocked to discover that it works. Josh reconnects with Dr. Steve as tensions rise at home with Shelly. Drawn in by an intriguing new friend, Ali travels to Palestine. Maura makes a life-changing discovery about her family history.
- Maura and Ali have arrived in Tel Aviv. In the process of preparing for the conference, Maura learns that there is a somewhat famous person in the area with the last name Pfefferman. Maura does some investigation to see if that person is a relation, and is shocked to discover who she thinks it is. The footage Ali shot of Maura being harassed at LAX by security for being transgendered has gone viral due to large part to a social activist named Lyfe who happens to be in Tel Aviv at this time. In meeting, Lyfe wants to show Ali the other side of Middle Eastern life by taking her into the West Bank. Back in California, Sarah, using a bit of a play from her time with Pony and discussions with Lila, tries a new parenting technique. A skeptical Len also tries it on Sarah's advice, both who have what they consider somewhat surprising results, which Sarah hopes to take to the next step. And Josh feels the need to visit Dr. Steve who he has not seen in a while, while Shelly partakes in her first improv class. Those two experiences in combination lead to a confrontation between mother and son.—Huggo
