The skate shop Gumball and Darwin visit is called "Ollie Vendor," a play on Ollivander's wand shop from Harry Potter. The scene of Darwin finding the right board is very similar to Harry finding his wand. See more »

Skateboarder Gumball!
20 February 2017 | by ericstevensonSee all my reviews

Well, we've seen Gumball in almost every scenario out there and this time we get to see him as a skateboarder. While not a classic, still a great episode. We get one of the best jokes in the beginning as Richard accidentally fires nails into the air and knocks a hot air balloon down. Gumball notices an old skateboard of his and tries to show Darwin some tricks with it. I feel pretty bad for not even knowing what a poser is before watching this. Apparently, it's something who's a faker. The best part of the episode is easily the sequence at the end.

We see the entire art shift into this new and innovative animation style. It's hard to really compare it to anything else. This show uses so many of them they all end being so distinct. It's implied this is what really happens and it's simply awesome to see Gumball save Darwin. I really do find myself rooting for him as he suddenly learns all these cool skateboarding tricks. We even see some of the CGI characters like Tina drawn in this cool style. Things still don't work out that well for poor Gumball in the end, but it's great to see his talent. ***1/2
