Maryline By Guillaume Gallienne
15 November 2017 | by mfjr-incSee all my reviews

For his second outing, Guillaume Gallienne delivers a beautiful portrait of a young woman who escapes her small village to go live in Paris and become a comedian. She lacks the words to fight back and defend herself. Thrown into a world of ego and sometimes violence, she is soon to find the adversity of the job and the world may be too much for her frail shoulders and she will need time and friends to find herself and become the great comedian she is. Fascinating to watch but sometimes too mysterious to be fully understood, the film nevertheless leaves an impressive mark on the viewer and will raise a few questions in the mind of the spectator. This film may not be for everyone but it has a beautiful central character, some amazing supporting acts - kudos to Vanessa Paradis, more femme fatale than ever - and a great vibe overall, walking the fine line between tragedy and comedy. Personally i enjoyed it and had a great time at the movies.
