Clifford Bentley's bank robbery seems to have been based on the Baker Street bank robbery of 1971. As with the Bentley robbery, walkie talkie transmissions (themselves very rare at the time) between a lookout and the other gang members were overheard by a nearby radio enthusiast and taped; a tunnel from a nearby shop was used to gain access to the bank, and explosives were also used. The Baker Street robbery has become the subject of urban myth and conspiracy theories, some of which are portrayed in The Bank Job (2008). See more
The then new 'Wellington' series-D five pound notes are seen throughout the series. While these were definitely in use but still coming into play as currency, the previous series were still common. Every scene where there is a £5 note shown, shows the new series...including the ones buried in the late 60s after an old robbery. Series D was introduced in October 1971 as part of the decimal changeover and even in the banks, many of the older series would have been used. See more
