Set in 790AD, Vikingane features the daily challenges of people living in a small Viking village, from power struggle, brother rivalry, gender equality, to betrayal and friendship. "It's the story of people from our time, but living during the Viking era. Of course everyday choices have far more dramatic consequences and that makes for great comedy material.Written by
All scenes were first shot with Norwegian dialogue. Then in English. The Norwegian version is called "Vikingane," produced by NRK (Norwegian television). The English version can be seen on Netflix. See more »
Very well made, acted, scripted and produced Viking comedy from Norway.
This came as something of a surprise as it's unbelievably well rounded for a first season. Great characters, very funny in places but also with some very dark humour and a lot of incidental violence (so this is absolutely not general family viewing!).
One thing to note: it's Norwegian but available on Netflix in English. Don't fear poor dubbing though as it's performed in both languages by the same actors which means you lose nothing in the process.
Final point is how well made it is from a production point of view - it's not a show that particularly needs high production values but it has them. Very much so.
A great show all round.
