Ryan Reynolds to play a video game Npc in Free Guy

20th Century Fox is set to reteam with its Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds on a new film called Free Guy, which has Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) attached to direct.

Scripted by Matt Lieberman, Free Guy will see Reynolds portraying a bank teller stuck in a routine, who discovers that he’s actually a background character in a brutal, open-world action-adventure video game and is actually the only one capable of saving his world.

This isn’t the only video game character role on the horizon for Reynolds, as he’s also portraying Pikachu in the upcoming live-action/CG-hybrid Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. He’s currently shooting the action thriller 6 Underground for Michael Bay and Netflix, and just this week it was announced that Fox has set an untitled Deadpool Movie for this December – thought to be a recut, PG-13 version of this year’s Deadpool 2.

Ryan Reynolds to Star in Shawn Levy Action Comedy Free Guy

Joseph Baxter Sep 28, 2018

Free Guy will see Ryan Reynolds headline an action-comedy helmed by Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy.

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has no shortage of projects, thanks to his acclaimed, financially fulfilling comeback as Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth. Interestingly, the latest addition to Reynolds’s backlog, a comedy called Free Guy, will purportedly utilize the artificial-world trope of The Truman Show with a dash of tonal dust from the Grand Theft Auto games.

Ryan Reynolds is set to headline 20th Century Fox comedic actioner Free Guy, as trades report. Reynolds will play a bank teller living a humdrum routine life, only to learn that he is, in actuality, a background character in a violent open world video game; a world that is somehow in jeopardy and can only be saved by him.

Free Guy will be directed by Shawn Levy, a longtime producer, who

Detective Pikachu director explains why Ash is absent from the first live-action Pokemon movie
When Legendary Entertainment secured the movie rights to the Pokemon franchise earlier this year, it came as some surprise when it was announced that the first ever live-action film would be an adaptation of Detective Pikachu, rather than that of the main franchise.

Well, speaking to IGN, director Rob Letterman has explained why the studio chose to go down the Detective Pikachu route, explaining that the character of Ash Ketchum has featured in so many anime features that it was felt a new story would offer something fresh.

“The Pokémon Company, they’ve already made many, many movies of Ash, and they came to Legendary with this idea of using a new character,” said Letterman. “So when I came on board, I was pitched this character of Detective Pikachu, and I fell in love with the story behind it. It’s a really great story. It was something with a lot of heart,

Why Did Detective Pikachu Ditch Ash Ketchum?

Why Did Detective Pikachu Ditch Ash Ketchum?
The first ever live-action Pokemon movie is coming our way next year in the form of Detective Pikachu. We recently got our first glimpse at the Detective Pikachu poster, which looks to be inspired by noir crime thrillers. Following the debut of the poster, Rob Lettermen, who previously directed the Goosebumps movie, talked more in-depth about the project and specifically addressed the noticeable absence of Ash. According to Lettermen, it had everything to do with wanting to do something new. Here's what he had to say about it.
